The short version: a bedroom window in our basic build is $460 – $570 CAD, before tax and shipping. A whole house is the sum of its windows, so the fastest way to a real number is to put your own sizes in the designer. Every price on this page comes from the same price list, so it changes when the designer’s does.
By window size
“Basic” is flat moulding, paint stage 1 in a standard colour and 3½ in louvers. “Dressed up” is moulded stiles and rails, paint stage 3, 4½ in louvers and a colour match to your trim: about as far as the options go on a rectangle.

These three homes are examples we made up to show how the total builds, not averages of real orders. When you count your own, walk the house rather than working from memory: the basement, the stairwell and the door to the yard are the openings people forget.

The gap between the two columns is the honest answer to “how much do shutters cost”: the same house can land in either column, and the difference is choices, not windows. Decide which options you’d actually notice every day, and spend there.
What moves the price
- Area, first. Price follows the area of the opening, not the number of panels, and each option below is charged by area too. So an option costs little on a bathroom window and a lot across a patio door: if you want to save, make the plain choice on the biggest openings.
- Moulding level. Flat stiles and rails are the plainest and cheapest; moulded ones add a routed profile and cost more.
- Paint stage. Higher stages add to the price. Stage 1 in a standard colour is the starting point.
- Louver width. 4½ in louvers cost more than 2½ or 3½ in, and need a deeper opening. Choosing a louver size
- Colour match or stain. Matching your trim or a stain colour adds to it.
- A mounting frame. Needed for outside mounts and for shallow or out-of-square openings; it adds to the price but often saves a remake.

- Installation. Our shutters are made to fit by you, with a step-by-step guide. If you’d rather hire someone, that’s a separate bill between you and the installer.

Sales tax by province
These are the Canada Revenue Agency’s rates in effect since April 1, 2025, when Nova Scotia’s HST fell to 14%[1]. Which of them apply to an order depends on the province it ships to.

How to compare quotes
A shutter quote is only comparable to another once you know what’s in it. Ask every seller the same questions, and write the answers next to the totals:
- What is the shutter made of, all the way through? Solid wood, MDF, a composite or vinyl?
- What louver width is quoted, in inches or millimetres?
- Is a frame included, and is it inside or outside mount?
- Is installation included, and who does it?
- Is the price before or after tax, and is shipping included?
- What does the warranty cover, and for how long?
One thing worth thinking about: the cheapest quote and the most expensive one often differ less in the shutter than in the service around it. How much do California shutters cost per window in Canada?

Why do shutter quotes in Canada vary so much?
Quotes bundle different things: the material (solid wood, MDF, composite or vinyl), the louver width, the moulding and paint, whether a frame is included, installation, and tax. Compare those line by line before comparing the totals.
Do I pay HST on shutters?
Shutters are taxable like other household goods. Which tax applies depends on the province the order ships to: HST in Ontario and Atlantic Canada, GST elsewhere, and provincial sales tax in British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Prices on this site are before tax.
