Black plantation shutters

Black interior shutters, also called black California shutters, painted on American poplar and made to the measurements you take.

Where black works

Black frames the view instead of blending into the wall. It suits rooms with dark window frames, black hardware or a strong contrast between trim and wall, like the white dining room in the video.

With the louvers open, black sits back and the view comes forward. Closed, the window reads as one dark, even surface.

How it’s made and priced

Black is painted as a colour match on the same American poplar as every Shutter Boys shutter. A 36 × 48 in window with flat moulding and paint stage 3 in black comes to $540 – $660 ($770 – $960 CAD).

In the designer, pick Black under Colour, or name the exact paint you want matched. The drawing turns black as you choose it.

Questions about black shutters

What do black shutters look like from outside?

From the street you see black louvers behind the glass instead of white ones. If you have an HOA or a condo corporation, check whether its rules cover what shows from outside before you order.

Do black shutters get hot?

Dark colours absorb more sunlight than white, so black louvers in a window that takes strong afternoon sun feel warmer to the touch. For south and west windows in hot climates, a lighter colour stays cooler.

Can I get a colour other than black?

Yes. White is our standard colour; any other paint colour or a stain is a colour match. Name the brand and colour, or the stain. Stains show poplar’s natural colour variation; paint is even.

Does black cost more?

Black is made as a colour match, which adds a little to the price of each window. The designer adds it when you pick Black under Colour.
