Wide windows split into sections
80% of homes are apartments or condos, where windows are often wide. A wide opening is split into several panels joined by T-posts at the window's own mullions, so the shutter lines up with the glass behind it.
Low winter sun through south windows
In December the midday sun is only 17° above the horizon here, so it reaches deep into rooms through south-facing windows. Louvers tilted with the room-side edge up send that light toward the ceiling instead of across a screen or a sofa.
Deep sills and wide casings
