The short version: Blinds Chalet and Shutter Boys are both online, made-to-measure shutter sellers: you measure, order and fit. Blinds Chalet sells several materials, real wood among them, ships within the continental US, and publishes sale prices. We sell one material, solid American poplar, in the US and Canada.
Who Blinds Chalet is
Blinds Chalet says it “began in 2006 with one employee and a simple idea” and is “Family-owned and operated since 2006”, with more than 350,000 customers[2]. Its address is in Mesa, Arizona, and it advertises “Custom window treatments shipped nationwide” with “Free shipping on qualifying window treatments within the contiguous U.S.”[1]. Besides shutters it sells blinds and shades[2]. For measuring it offers “measuring instructions, expert assistance” and a paid fit guarantee[2], which, as below, doesn’t extend to shutters.
The shutters it sells
Its shutters split into two groups[1]:
- Real wood. The Clairmonte Wood Shutters, in “Classic Paints” or “Natural Stains”. The real wood page names basswood and poplar/hardwood blends among its species, and 2½, 3½ and 4½ in louvers[3].
- Wood alternatives. On the day we checked: Rapid Ship Hybrid and Custom Fit Hybrid shutters, Premier Composite, Broadview, Sienna PolyClad, and Eclipse vinyl shutters, described on the page as “Durable extruded polyresin with hollow louvers”[4].
On October 30, 2026 a site-wide “Save 55% + FREE Shipping” sale was running. Under it, the Clairmonte shutters started at $269.46 in classic paints and $296.46 in natural stains; the real wood page didn’t state the size those prices were for[3]. The wood-alternative shutters started at $196.29 (Premier Composite) and $207.24 (both hybrids), for the page’s default 24 × 36 in size[4]. Sales end and prices change, so check on the day.

Where Blinds Chalet is stronger
- Speed. Its policy page gives typical production of 5 to 10 business days and says to allow 2 to 2½ weeks for delivery[5], and two of its alternative shutters were labelled “Made in 2 Days” and “Made in 5 Days”[4].
- Choice of material. If you want vinyl for a bathroom or a lower-cost composite for a rental, it sells those as well as wood[4]. We make wood only.
- Free shipping on qualifying orders within the contiguous US[1].
- Published prices. You can see a sale price per product without entering sizes[4].
Where we’re different
- Canada. Blinds Chalet describes shipping within the continental US[2]. We ship across Canada (not Quebec yet) and quote in Canadian dollars: a 36 × 48 in window is $460 – $570 CAD in our basic build. Shutter prices in Canada
- One wood, named. Every shutter we make is solid American poplar, so the species never varies from window to window. Why poplar
- Any colour. White is our standard; the designer takes a paint colour or stain match on any window.
- Your whole house priced as you go. A 36 × 48 in window is $320 – $400 in the US, before tax and shipping, and the designer totals every window you add.
Our shutters are one product: solid American poplar, made to the measurements you take, priced online window by window, and fitted by you. Price your windows
Returns, shipping and the fine print
Both of us make shutters to your measurements, so neither treats them like stock goods. Blinds Chalet’s policy page sets out its terms clearly[5]:
- Returns are available only with the paid “Guaranteed to Love” upgrade, within 30 days, as store credit, with return shipping paid by you[5].
- The standard 3-year guarantee covers manufacturing defects; you pay the shipping and any measuring or installation costs[5].
- Shipping is free on qualifying orders within the contiguous US; oversized items may carry a surcharge, and Alaska, Hawaii and faster services cost extra[5].
- Express production orders can’t be changed or cancelled, and estimated completion dates aren’t guaranteed[5].
Ask us the same questions before you order: what happens if a shutter arrives damaged, how long the lead time is, and what the warranty covers. The answers are on your quote, in writing.
Measuring for an online shutter order
Because Blinds Chalet’s fit guarantee excludes shutters[5], and because a shutter is made to the window rather than adjusted to it, the measuring is the part to get right, whichever store you buy from:
- Decide inside or outside mount first. An inside mount needs enough depth for the frame and for the louvers to tilt. Inside vs outside mount
- Measure width and height in three places and use the smallest for an inside mount.
- Measure the depth to the glass and to any crank or handle. It decides which louver size tilts freely.
- Check the opening is square by measuring both diagonals; older windows often aren’t.
- Write down which way you want panels to open, and where the tilt rod should sit.
Our measuring guide covers each step with drawings, and a designer can check your numbers by video or phone before you order.
Real wood or a wood alternative?
Blinds Chalet lets you choose; we’ve made the choice for you, so here is the reasoning. Its alternatives are built for price and moisture: vinyl’s “extruded polyresin with hollow louvers”[4] won’t mind a damp room, and composite costs less than its real wood line on the day we checked[3][4]. Wood is chosen for how it looks and lasts in the rooms you live in: it takes a stain, and it can be repainted. Between real woods, its page names basswood and poplar/hardwood blends[3]; ours is always poplar, a hardwood that paints smoothly. Wood vs vinyl and are plantation shutters worth it? go further.
Which one suits you
| If you… | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Need shutters within a couple of weeks | Blinds Chalet | Published production times of 5–10 business days |
| Want vinyl or composite | Blinds Chalet | We make wood only |
| Live in Canada | Shutter Boys | We ship across Canada except Quebec, priced in CAD |
| Want solid poplar on every window | Shutter Boys | One species, painted or stained |
| Want a custom colour | Shutter Boys | Colour match or stain on any window |
How to compare the two fairly
- Compare wood with wood. Blinds Chalet’s lowest shutter prices are for composite and hybrid shutters[4]; its real wood line starts higher[3]. Compare our poplar with its Clairmonte line, or decide first whether you want wood at all. Faux wood vs real wood
- Use your real sizes. Its alternatives’ prices are for a 24 × 36 in default[4]; enter the same windows in both carts.
- Price the warranty. The 5-year coverage is a paid upgrade[5]; include it if you’d buy it.
- Plan for measuring mistakes. Its Guaranteed to Fit protection excludes shutters[5]. Read our measuring guide before ordering from either of us.
- Check the sale end date. The prices above were shown during a 55%-off sale[3].
Then compare the totals, not the starting prices: every window at its real size, with the louver size, tilt and colour you actually want, plus any warranty upgrade, tax and shipping. A starting price is the smallest default shutter in the range, and few houses are made of those.
When a shade suits a window better than a shutter
Some openings are better without a shutter: a sliding door that’s used all day suits patio door blinds, a wide picture window a motorized roller shade or solar shade, and a den that wants warmth a wood blind or roman shade. Our sister company, Shade Boys, makes those to measure, so you can use shutters where they suit and a shade where they don’t.

Common questions
Does Blinds Chalet sell plantation shutters?
Yes, in two groups: real wood shutters (its Clairmonte line, in paints or stains) and wood alternatives, which on the day we checked included hybrid, composite, vinyl and PolyClad shutters.
How much are Blinds Chalet shutters?
On October 30, 2026, at a 55%-off sale, its Clairmonte real wood shutters started at $269.46 (classic paints) and its composite and hybrid shutters from $196.29, shown for a 24 × 36 in default size. Our solid poplar shutter at 24 × 36 in is $160 – $200 in our basic build, before tax and shipping.
What warranty do Blinds Chalet shutters have?
Its policy page lists a 3-year standard guarantee covering manufacturing defects, with 5-year “Guaranteed to Last” and “Guaranteed to Love” upgrades for a fee. The customer pays shipping and any measuring or installation costs under the warranty.
Does Blinds Chalet’s fit guarantee cover shutters?
No. Its policy page says shutters aren’t eligible for its 30-day Guaranteed to Fit remake protection, so measure carefully, wherever you buy.
Is there an alternative to Blinds Chalet shutters?
If you want solid poplar throughout, or you live in Canada, we make made-to-measure poplar shutters, priced online window by window, and ship across the US and Canada (not Quebec yet).
Is Shutter Boys connected to Blinds Chalet?
No. They’re separate companies; this page compares the two using Blinds Chalet’s own published information.
