Updated
The short version: Smith & Noble’s US operations are now part of 3 Day Blinds[1]. Orders in progress and warranty service go through 3 Day Blinds; new shutters are sold the 3 Day Blinds way, with an in-home consultation and installation. If you’d rather price shutters online and fit them yourself, that’s what we do.
What happened to Smith & Noble
3 Day Blinds’ page for Smith & Noble says: “Smith & Noble U.S. operations have joined forces with 3 Day Blinds” and “We will continue to fulfill and install orders in progress, and provide warranty service to our previous clients”[1]. It gives separate contact details for Smith & Noble orders and for booking a new consultation. It doesn’t give a date, and we couldn’t read smithandnoble.com itself, which turned away automated readers when we checked, so we haven’t quoted it.
Smith & Noble sold wood shutters for years. A 2010 product listing on Remodelista quotes its description of a wood shutter with “2 1/2″ louvers” for “generous views” when open and “superior light control, sound insulation and privacy when closed”[5]. That’s an old listing, not today’s range.
What you can buy now, through 3 Day Blinds
3 Day Blinds’ shutters page, on October 30, 2026[2]:
- Lines: interior shutters, faux wood shutters and wood shutters, in inside-mount, outside-mount and Z-mount styles, with bi-fold, café and double-hung panel types.
- Materials: wood and composite; its features list also mentions ABS, a plastic.
- Louvers: no sizes listed; it says louver sizes “vary based on your light and privacy needs”.
- Buying: a “free in-home design consultation”, with installation as part of its full service.
- Prices: none shown online.
It serves homeowners in the US: its service-area page lists 30 states and Washington, DC, and says to book a consultation to confirm service for addresses not listed. Canada isn’t mentioned[4].
The warranty, in 3 Day Blinds’ words
From its warranty page[3]:
- “Shutters components and workmanship are covered for the lifetime of the product”, for “the original buyer, with proof of purchase”.
- Reserve shutter finishes are warrantied for life; Reserve Plus and Arborvue finishes for 3 years.
- Its installation is covered for up to one year after it’s completed, if you bought installation from it.
- Among its general exclusions: “slight warping of wood products” isn’t treated as a defect, and damage visible at delivery must be reported within 30 days.

Where 3 Day Blinds is stronger
- Someone else measures and installs. If a size is wrong, that’s on the installer, not you.
- Samples in your own room at the consultation.
- More than shutters in the same visit: blinds, shades and drapery.
- Continuity for Smith & Noble customers: orders in progress and warranty service stay with one company.
Where ordering from us is different
- A price first. Every window priced as you add it, before anyone visits. Prices for every size
- Solid wood only, painted or stained in any colour you name; no composite option to compare against. Composite vs wood
- Canada. We ship across Canada except Quebec: $460 – $570 CAD in Canadian dollars for the same window.
- Shapes: arches, half-rounds, angled tops and circles. Arched and shaped windows
- Published louver sizes, so you can plan the look before you talk to anyone. Choosing a louver size
Our shutters are one product: solid American poplar, made to the measurements you take, priced online window by window, and fitted by you. Price your windows

Measuring yourself instead of having it done
The biggest difference between an in-home seller and a made-to-measure DIY order isn’t the shutter; it’s who measures and fits it. Taking that on yourself is how a DIY order costs less, so it’s worth knowing what it involves:
- Five steps per window: the depth of the opening, the width three times, the height three times (writing down the smallest of each), both diagonals to check it’s square, and anything in the way, such as a handle or crank. How to measure
- Inside or outside mount: inside sits in the opening and needs enough depth; outside sits on the trim and covers it. Inside vs outside mount
- Fitting: the frame screws into the opening or the trim, then the panels hang on their hinges. How to install
- The risk: if you measure wrong, the mistake is yours, not the installer’s. A design call by video or phone before you order is the time to ask about anything you’re unsure of.
If you’d rather not do any of that, an in-home seller is the right call, and the price difference is what you’re paying for: someone else’s time, and someone else’s responsibility for the sizes.
Ordering in stages
You don’t have to do every window at once. Each window is priced on its own, so bedrooms can come first and the main floor later, as long as the louver size, moulding level and colour stay the same from the first order so the rooms match. A 24 × 36 in bathroom window is $160 – $200 in our basic build; the same window is $230 – $290 CAD in Canadian dollars, before tax and shipping. Prices for every size
If you already have Smith & Noble shutters
Warranty questions go to 3 Day Blinds, which says it provides warranty service to previous Smith & Noble clients[1]. For wear that isn’t a warranty matter, most faults are adjustments: louvers that won’t hold their angle usually need their tension adjusted, and a panel that rubs usually needs a hinge screw tightened. Fix loose louvers, repair or replace.
Adding shutters to another room doesn’t need the same maker. Measure one louver edge to edge (the 2010 listing above was for 2½ in louvers; yours may differ), note whether the frame edges are flat or moulded, and find the trim paint’s name and sheen. With those three, a new room will sit comfortably next to the old ones. We make complete shutters, not parts for other makers’ panels.
How to compare quotes from any seller
- Get the total. Product, measuring and installation, plus tax, so DIY and installed quotes compare fairly.
- Ask what “wood” means. Solid hardwood, composite, or a mix of wood panels and composite frames. Faux wood vs real wood
- Ask for the louver size and frame style in writing, so you know what you’re getting.
- Read the finish warranty separately from the product warranty; they’re often different lengths.
- Ask for the lead time on your quote, and when the balance is due.
When a shade suits better than a shutter
A shutter isn’t the right answer for every opening: a sliding door, a very wide window, or a room where you want the whole view clear is usually better with a shade. Our sister company, Shade Boys, makes Roman shades, cellular shades, roller shades, solar shades and patio door blinds to measure, so shutters and shades can come from one team.
Smith & Noble and 3 Day Blinds are trademarks of their owners. Shutter Boys isn’t affiliated with either company, and this page isn’t endorsed by either. What we say about them comes from 3 Day Blinds’ own pages, checked October 30, 2026, and one older listing that we label; products and terms change, so check before you buy.
Common questions
Is Smith & Noble still in business?
Its US operations are now part of 3 Day Blinds. 3 Day Blinds’ page says “Smith & Noble U.S. operations have joined forces with 3 Day Blinds”, and that it will keep fulfilling and installing orders in progress and provide warranty service to previous clients.
Does Smith & Noble still sell plantation shutters?
New orders go through 3 Day Blinds, whose shutter pages list wood shutters and faux wood shutters, sold with a free in-home design consultation and installation.
What is the warranty on Smith & Noble shutters?
For previous clients, 3 Day Blinds says it will “provide warranty service”. For new shutters bought from 3 Day Blinds, its warranty page covers components and workmanship for the lifetime of the product for the original buyer; finish warranties depend on the line.
How much do Smith & Noble or 3 Day Blinds shutters cost?
Neither page we checked published shutter prices; they’re quoted after the in-home consultation. Our solid poplar shutter for a 36 × 48 in window is priced live on this page.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Smith & Noble shutters?
If you’re willing to measure and fit, a made-to-measure DIY shutter takes the visit and installation out of the price. You trade that saving for doing the measuring and fitting yourself.
Is Shutter Boys connected to Smith & Noble or 3 Day Blinds?
No. They’re separate companies; this page describes them from 3 Day Blinds’ published pages.
