Updated
The short version: at both stores, the custom shutters you can order yourself are composite or poly. Real wood at Home Depot comes installed, after an in-home consultation. If you want solid wood and you’re happy to fit it, that’s the gap we fill.
Home Depot
- DIY custom: composite and faux wood shutters (Veneta, Bali, Levolor) with “starting at” prices[1].
- Installed hardwood: “Solid wood construction”, 2½, 3½ or 4½ in louvers, front or hidden tilt, arches and specialty shapes; priced at a free consultation, with a “4-8 week lead time” and a “Lifetime warranty”[2].
- Installation service: a local authorized installer, a 1-year labor warranty, and its own figure: “The average plantation shutter cost in 2024 was $3,841”[3].
Lowe’s
- Custom: Levolor polyresin and Bali composite shutters; the Bali DIY composite has 2½ or 3½ in louvers, standard and hidden tilt, and a limited lifetime warranty[5][4].
- Stock: allen + roth faux wood shutters in fixed size ranges[4].

Where the stores are stronger
- Someone else installs it, with a labor warranty, if that’s what you want[3].
- Low entry prices on composite, and a store down the road.
Where we’re different
- Solid wood without an installer. The only way to get real wood at Home Depot is installed; ours ships to you. How to install
- Price first. $320 – $400 for a 36 × 48 in window, before tax and shipping, before anyone visits.
- Every option on wood: 4½ in louvers, three moulding levels, three paint stages, colour match or stain, arches and shapes.
Our shutters are one product: solid American poplar, made to the measurements you take, priced online window by window, and fitted by you. Price your windows
