Homes in Uxbridge
Uxbridge is a city of houses: of its 8,010 occupied homes, 81% are detached, 7% are semi-detached and row houses and 12% are apartments or units in buildings of two or more homes.
The 1980s and 1990s built 30% of today's homes, more than any other period we count. 42% are older than that and 28% newer. Owners live in 84% of homes.
In nearby Whitchurch-Stouffville, 18 km away, 22% of homes were built in 1980 or earlier, so Uxbridge's windows are on the whole older. Nationally, Uxbridge's homes are newer than those in 51% of the 167 Canadian cities we have census figures for.

Whole-house orders
With 81% of homes detached, most orders here cover a whole house: bedrooms, a patio door, perhaps a bay. Put every window in one list in the designer so the louver size and colour match from the street.
Bought to stay
Owners live in 84% of homes, and shutters are usually bought to stay with the house. Poplar takes paint well, so they can be repainted years from now if you change a room's colours. Keep your order list: it records every size if you add a room later.

Cold winters
With 159 days at or below freezing a year, warm room air meets cold glass for months. Shutters closed tight overnight hold that air against the window, so condensation can collect on the sill: tilt the louvers open in the morning, and wipe the sill on windows that often run wet.
Summer sun
On the 10 days a year above 30 °C, closed louvers keep direct sun off the glass and out of the room. In a window that takes afternoon sun, white and light paint finishes stay cooler to the touch than dark stains.
