Homes in Caledon
Caledon is a city of houses: of its 23,700 occupied homes, 81% are detached, 15% are semi-detached and row houses and 5% are apartments or units in buildings of two or more homes.
Much of Caledon is new: 36% of homes were built 2001 or later, and only 30% in 1980 or earlier. Owners live in 89% of homes.
In nearby Orangeville, 21 km away, 42% of homes were built in 1980 or earlier, so Caledon's windows are on the whole newer. Nationally, Caledon's homes are newer than those in 77% of the 167 Canadian cities we have census figures for.

Whole-house orders
With 81% of homes detached, most orders here cover a whole house: bedrooms, a patio door, perhaps a bay. Put every window in one list in the designer so the louver size and colour match from the street.
Bought to stay
Owners live in 89% of homes, and shutters are usually bought to stay with the house. Poplar takes paint well, so they can be repainted years from now if you change a room's colours. Keep your order list: it records every size if you add a room later.
Shallow openings
36% of homes were built in 2001 or later. Newer windows are often set close to the room side of the wall, and handles, cranks and alarm sensors stick out into the space a louver swings through. Measure the depth to the glass and to anything that sticks out; the designer checks it against the louver size you pick.
A whole house in Caledon
The most common home in Caledon has four or more bedrooms: 52% of homes. Large houses are common too: 52% have four bedrooms or more. Homes average 7.7 rooms.
Detached houses are the most common kind of home here. Across Canada, the middle home has 6 to 10 windows (NRCan, 2007). Shuttering that many windows at a typical bedroom-window size comes to roughly $2,700 to $5,700 CAD. For scale, that's about 0.4% of the median home value here, $1,000,000 CAD (owners’ estimates, 2021).
Homes here are larger than in 98% of the 167 Canadian cities we have figures for, so a whole-house order runs to more windows than most.

52% of homes here have four bedrooms or more. For a house that size, list every window in one go: type or paste the sizes, or upload them as a spreadsheet saved as CSV, and the designer prices each window and the total.
Working from home
28% of workers here worked from home on census day in May 2021, during the pandemic, more than in 81% of the 167 Canadian cities we have figures for. Glare on a screen comes from direct sun and bright sky behind or beside it. Louvers tilted up throw daylight at the ceiling instead, so the room stays bright and the screen stays readable; wider louvers give the clearest view when you open them.

Summer sun
On the 17 days a year above 30 °C, closed louvers keep direct sun off the glass and out of the room. In a window that takes afternoon sun, white and light paint finishes stay cooler to the touch than dark stains.
Cold winters
With 131 days at or below freezing a year, warm room air meets cold glass for months. Shutters closed tight overnight hold that air against the window, so condensation can collect on the sill: tilt the louvers open in the morning, and wipe the sill on windows that often run wet.
