Apartments and condos
65% of homes are in multi-unit buildings, where anything on the outside wall needs the building's approval. Interior shutters don't.
Blocking summer sun
A roller shutter rolls down outside the glass and blocks sun before it reaches the window, the main reason people buy them in hot cities. Interior wood louvers can't do that, but they let you keep the view and daylight while cutting glare.
Darkness and privacy
Closed, a roller shutter makes a room close to dark, with no view. Wood shutters let you choose: tilt for daylight with privacy, close for more, open the panels for the full view.
