Shutter BoysCustom shutters in Alexandria
Made to measure for Alexandria
Owners live in 42% of Alexandria's homes, and 60% of the housing was built before 1980, so window sizes here vary from street to street.
Made to measure in poplar, a 36 × 48 in window is $320 – $400 and a 48 × 60 in window is $540 – $660, before tax and shipping, with flat moulding and 3½ in louvers.

Sizes stock shutters don’t come in
In a city where 60% of homes are decades old, windows rarely match the few sizes ready-made shutters are sold in. Every Shutter Boys shutter is built to the width and height you measure, to the nearest ⅛ in.
Renting
58% of homes are rented. Shutters screw into the frame, so ask your landlord first; taking them down later leaves screw holes to fill.
Colour to match your trim
White is our standard finish. Any other paint colour or stain is a colour match: name it, or send a photo of the trim, and the designer draws the shutter in that colour.
Made to Alexandria's window sizes
37% of Alexandria's homes have one bedroom or none and 10% have four or more. Small homes outnumber large ones, with wide window walls in place of many separate windows. Half the homes were built before 1974.
Four-bedroom homes are less common here than in 94% of the 881 US cities we have figures for. In Arlington, 4 miles away, it's about the same: 39% of homes have one bedroom or none.
