Cold glass
A big glass door is the coldest surface in the room on a winter morning, and moisture condenses on it. Open the louvers on cold days so warm air reaches the glass, and wipe off any condensation before it reaches the wood.
Sliding doors to the yard
In a city of mostly detached houses, the patio door is usually a wide sliding glass door. Bypass shutters slide on a track in front of it, so nothing swings into the room and the door opens with the panels stacked to one side.
Balcony doors
With 33% of homes in multi-unit buildings, many patio doors here open onto a balcony. Bifold panels fold back in pairs and need little floor space; check what your HOA or building allows to show through the glass.
