London's weather and homes

In London, July averages a high of 26.6 °C and January a low of −9.1 °C, about 11 days a year reach 30 °C, 139 nights fall at or below 0 °C, and 962 mm of precipitation falls in a typical year. That's wetter than 66% of the 160 Canadian cities we have climate figures for.

49% of homes are detached houses; 52% were built in 1980 or earlier.

St. Thomas, 21 km away, gets much the same rain and snow in a year.

Freeze and thaw

139 freezing nights a year put anything outside through freeze and thaw. Exterior shutters need materials and fixings made for that; interior shutters never see it.

Multi-unit buildings

34% of homes are in multi-unit buildings, whose outside walls aren't the owner's to change. Interior shutters are the option there.

Older facades

22% of homes are from 1960 or earlier. On an older facade, exterior shutters are often about the look of the street; check any heritage rules before changing them. Interior shutters change nothing outside.
