Kawartha Lakes's weather and homes

Older facades
27% of homes are from 1960 or earlier. On an older facade, exterior shutters are often about the look of the street; check any heritage rules before changing them. Interior shutters change nothing outside.
Freeze and thaw
159 freezing nights a year put anything outside through freeze and thaw. Exterior shutters need materials and fixings made for that; interior shutters never see it.
Sun on the outside
With 10 days at 30 °C or more, functional exterior shutters that close over the glass can keep sun off it. Decorative ones that don't close only frame the window.
