Homes in Coon Rapids
Coon Rapids is a city of houses: of its 25,346 homes, 62% are detached, 17% are townhouses and other attached houses and 19% are apartments or units in buildings of two or more homes.
The 1980s and 1990s built 44% of today's homes, more than any other period we count. 43% are older than that and 12% newer. The median home dates from 1983. Owners live in 75% of homes.
In nearby Brooklyn Park, 5 miles away, 51% of homes were built before 1980, so Coon Rapids's windows are on the whole newer. Nationally, Coon Rapids's homes are newer than those in 59% of the 881 US cities we have census figures for.

Replacement windows
40% of homes went up between 1950 and 1979, and most of them have had their original windows replaced since. A replacement window often sits further into or out of the wall than the old one, so the depth you have for an inside mount may differ from window to window in the same house. Measure every opening rather than copying one.
Townhouses
17% of homes share a wall with the next one. Their front windows face the street side by side with the neighbours', so many owners pick a louver size and a white or off-white finish that sit well beside the houses on either side. Bay windows on townhouses usually need a separate panel set for each face.
Bought to stay
Owners live in 75% of homes, and shutters are usually bought to stay with the house. Poplar takes paint well, so they can be repainted years from now if you change a room's colours. Keep your order list: it records every size if you add a room later.
Whole-house orders
With 62% of homes detached, most orders here cover a whole house: bedrooms, a patio door, perhaps a bay. Put every window in one list in the designer so the louver size and colour match from the street, and if you have an HOA, send it the drawings before you order.
A whole house in Coon Rapids
The most common home in Coon Rapids has three bedrooms: 34% of homes. 29% have four bedrooms or more, and 9% have one or none. The median home has 6.1 rooms.
Detached houses are the most common kind of home here. Across the US, the middle home among detached houses has 10 to 15 windows (EIA, 2020). Shuttering that many windows at a typical bedroom-window size comes to roughly $3,200 to $6,000. For scale, that's about 1.5% of the median home value here, $305,800 (owners’ estimates, 2020–2024).
Homes here are larger than in 75% of the 881 US cities we have figures for, so a whole-house order runs to more windows than most.

Homes here cost less than in 67% of the 881 US cities we have figures for, and many owners do a house in stages. Start with the rooms where light and privacy matter most, usually bedrooms and the street-facing front, and keep the same louver size and colour so later rooms match. Your saved design keeps every size.

Deep cold
January nights average 2.4°F. Closed shutters trap a layer of still air against the glass, which keeps the room warmer, but the glass behind them gets colder too, and frost can form on the inside of older windows. Tilt the louvers open in the morning to let room air reach the glass, and wipe the sill if water collects.
