Cold winters
A stain sinks into the wood instead of forming a layer on top, so a stained shutter moves with the seasons just as a painted one does. Keep winter humidity reasonable and both finishes stay sound.
Matching original woodwork
With 34% of homes this old, many still have stained trim and doors. Name the stain, or send a photo of the trim beside a window, and we match the shutters to it. Poplar's colour varies from board to board, so a stained shutter looks like natural wood rather than one flat colour.

Where our shutters fit
Every Shutter Boys shutter is made from solid American poplar to the measurements you take, then shipped to Des Moines for you to fit. Any stain is a colour match: name it in the designer and the drawing shows it.
The designer shows the price of each window as you add it, in US dollars.
