Homes in Hanford
Hanford is a city of houses: of its 20,433 homes, 74% are detached, 2% are townhouses and other attached houses and 21% are apartments or units in buildings of two or more homes.
The 1980s and 1990s built 32% of today's homes, more than any other period we count. 39% are older than that and 29% newer. The median home dates from 1987. 62% of homes are lived in by their owners.
Its housing is much like Visalia's, 18 miles away. Nationally, Hanford's homes are newer than those in 65% of the 881 US cities we have census figures for.

Whole-house orders
With 74% of homes detached, most orders here cover a whole house: bedrooms, a patio door, perhaps a bay. Put every window in one list in the designer so the louver size and colour match from the street, and if you have an HOA, send it the drawings before you order.
Rounded drywall corners
61% of homes here were built from 1980 on, and many houses of that era have rounded ("bullnose") drywall corners around the windows instead of square returns. A shutter can't sit flat against a curve: choose an outside mount with a frame that clears the corner, or an inside mount if the flat part of the opening is deep enough for your louvers.

Summer sun
On the 108 days a year above 90°F, closed louvers keep direct sun off the glass and out of the room. In a window that takes afternoon sun, white and light paint finishes stay cooler to the touch than dark stains.
Dry air
Only 10 inches of precipitation a year, and days and nights about 27°F apart. Dry air pulls moisture out of wood, so poplar louvers can shrink very slightly through their first dry season; that's normal for real wood.
