West Vancouver's weather and homes
In West Vancouver, July averages a high of 23 °C and December a low of 3.2 °C, about 1 days a year reach 30 °C, 17 nights fall at or below 0 °C, and 1,538 mm of precipitation falls in a typical year. That's wetter than 91% of the 160 Canadian cities we have climate figures for.
56% of homes are detached houses; 54% were built in 1980 or earlier.
Vancouver, 8 km away, gets much the same rain and snow in a year.

Rain on the outside
1,538 mm of rain a year is hard on exterior finishes, which need repainting or replacing on a schedule. Shutters inside the window stay dry.
Multi-unit buildings
39% of homes are in multi-unit buildings, whose outside walls aren't the owner's to change. Interior shutters are the option there.
Older facades
21% of homes are from 1960 or earlier. On an older facade, exterior shutters are often about the look of the street; check any heritage rules before changing them. Interior shutters change nothing outside.
