Sun and homes in St. Albert

St. Albert's warmest month, July, averages 23.5 °C, and about 4 days a year reach 30 °C. That's fewer hot days than 80% of the 160 Canadian cities we have climate figures for.

3% of homes date from 1960 or earlier, 32% from 2001 or later, and owners live in 83% of them.

Edmonton, 14 km away, has much the same number of days a year at 30 °C or more (4).

Cold winters

A stain sinks into the wood instead of forming a layer on top, so a stained shutter moves with the seasons just as a painted one does. Keep winter humidity reasonable and both finishes stay sound.

Bought to stay

Owners live in 83% of homes here. A stain can be refreshed or painted over in years to come, which a factory-coloured vinyl shutter can't.

Wood vs vinyl

Stain in newer homes

In newer homes with painted trim, a stained shutter becomes the one warm, wood-grain piece in the room. A dark stain on flat moulding reads modern; a lighter one on moulded frames, more traditional.
