So, we get it; shuttering is cool—and there’s no reason why you couldn’t install them yourself. However, there’s a lot involved with installing shutters, especially custom ones.
I wanted to do it myself because I love doing things myself, which is something many of us learn early on. And it was a great experience.
However, while many homeowners like the idea of going through DIY project planning, execution, design/planning meetings, ordering the proper materials, measuring everything, cutting, assembling, gluing, sanding, painting, caulking, weatherproofing, testing, waiting weeks for delivery, etc., most people just don’t like dealing with contractors. They prefer getting it done quickly and simply. And they expect high quality work. If you aren’t willing to go the extra mile, then hire someone who does these steps professionally!
If you do decide to tackle it yourself, it isn’t necessarily a bad thing to use other methods than traditional window covering options, but you should be aware that there are additional considerations. For example, you must ensure that you follow safety precautions when handling ladders and power tools. I hope everyone is having a great summer thus far!! I am currently living in Toronto Canada which feels like home away from home, I was born and raised in Calgary Alberta which still holds many fond memories for me and most importantly family ?. We moved to Toronto after being apart for 10 years to pursue different career paths, both mine and his, which is why I decided to go back to school fulltime to get a degree in Interior Decorating, and he went back to University to complete our Masters Degrees. Being busy with School has allowed us to become really good friends again since the distance put a strain on things in the past. So needless to say I love Toronto, the people, the food, everything, its amazing! But anyways enough rambling, onto the topic at hand.
We purchased our first house in July 2016, with the dream of updating the exterior space and adding additional windows and doors to maximize views of the lake Ontario, the city skyline, downtown life, and lots of sunshine ☠? We ended up doing quite a bit of research and planning ahead of buying, including researching window companies, suppliers, design software/programming, contractors and building permits. The hardest part came once we began ordering our windows and door systems; getting everything delivered and installed on schedule took months, due to unforeseen delays in shipping and receiving shipments (which is completely normal). Luckily we found a company who offered custom made windows, so each piece was shipped to us individually instead of a batch of 100 or 1000 pieces. Once delivered, they had no problem getting the job completed within 3 weeks as promised, and everything turned out better than expected ??
The main reason why we chose shutters over aluminum panels is because we wanted something that would blend perfectly with the existing architecture of our home, rather then replacing it entirely.
