Here’s the breakdown… Vinyl Shutters: These shingles come in several varieties depending upon whether they’ve got their own frame or rely entirely on a window sash or header track. Some people refer to these as “curtains” because it sounds nicer but I personally just call them vinyl “shades”. If you’d rather keep things basic than use fancy terminology, then consider yourself lucky since it really doesn’t matter a whole lot anyways.
What They’re Good At: Aesthetically pleasing. Easy to clean and maintain. Can be easily repainted. Often cheaper than wooden versions.
What Their Downside Is: Very prone to moisture damage. Can wear down quickly due to weather exposure which leads to peeling and flaking paint. Most common types include roll and Roman shades. Solid Wood Shades: These come in two styles; either built from real wood slats or constructed from metal strips. Either way, they tend to feature some type of roller mechanism that controls the amount of light passing through.
