Balcony doors
With 40% of homes in multi-unit buildings, many patio doors here open onto a balcony. Bifold panels fold back in pairs and need little floor space; check what your HOA or building allows to show through the glass.
Cold glass
A big glass door is the coldest surface in the room on a winter morning, and moisture condenses on it. Open the louvers on cold days so warm air reaches the glass, and wipe off any condensation before it reaches the wood.
Older door openings
48% of homes are decades old, and older door openings settle. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom; a mounting frame gives the track a straight line to run on.
