Shutter BoysVinyl shutters in West Jordan: vinyl or wood?
West Jordan's weather and homes
In West Jordan, July averages a high of 93.5°F and January a low of 25.3°F, about 78 days a year reach 90°F, 117 nights fall at or below freezing, and 20.3 inches of precipitation falls in a typical year. That's more hot days than 71% of the 881 US cities we have climate figures for.
19% of homes were built before 1980, and owners live in 77% of them.
South Jordan, 3 miles away, has much the same number of days a year at 90°F or more (78).

Dry winters
Here's a fair point for vinyl: it doesn't take on or give off moisture, so dry heated winters don't move it. Wood moves a little with the seasons; paint and a sensible indoor humidity keep it small.
Heat and vinyl
78 days a year reach 90°F. Vinyl makers are careful about heat: Hunter Douglas advises against its vinyl shutters in skylights, where it says the frame and louvers may warp. On a hot, sunny glass wall here, solid wood is the safer choice.
