The windows in Las Vegas's homes
By age, 1% of Las Vegas's homes went up before 1950, 21% between 1950 and 1979, 44% between 1980 and 1999 and 33% in 2000 or later.
Half of them are older than 1994, which is the age of window you're most likely measuring here.
In Spring Valley, 9 miles away, 12% of homes are built before 1980, 11 points fewer than here.

Cranks, handles and shallow frames
In the 33% of homes built in 2000 or later, windows are often set close to the room side of the wall, with crank or lever handles. Measure from the glass, or the handle if it sticks out further, to the face of the trim: that depth decides whether you mount inside, outside or on a frame.
Wide windows split into sections
31% of homes are apartments or condos, where windows are often wide. A wide opening is split into several panels joined by T-posts at the window's own mullions, so the shutter lines up with the glass behind it.
Inside or outside the opening
An inside mount sits within the window opening and looks built in, but it needs enough depth for the louvers to tilt. An outside mount fixes to the wall or casing around the window, which suits shallow openings and hides uneven edges. The designer asks which you want for each window.
| Feature | Inside mount | Outside mount | On a mounting frame |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sits | Within the opening | On the wall or casing | Within or over the opening |
| Needs depth for the louvers | Yes | No | Some |
| Hides an uneven opening | No | Yes | Yes |
| Look | Built in | Framed, like trim | Finished edge all round |
Where our shutters fit
Every Shutter Boys shutter is made from solid American poplar to the measurements you take, then shipped to Las Vegas for you to fit. You choose the mount for each window in the designer, and we check the depth against the louver you pick.
The designer shows the price of each window as you add it, in US dollars.
