Condos and apartments
74% of homes are in multi-unit buildings, where the outside walls belong to the building. Exterior shutters usually aren't an option there; interior shutters are.
Winter outside
92 freezing nights a year mean ice and snow on anything mounted outside. Interior shutters stay out of the weather entirely and are adjusted from the room.
Aluminum inside the house
Indoors, aluminum usually appears as a stiffener hidden inside vinyl shutters, not as a shutter on its own. For an interior shutter, solid wood needs no metal core.
