Apartments and condos
39% of homes are in multi-unit buildings, where anything on the outside wall needs the building's approval. Interior shutters don't.
What installing involves
Roller shutters mount outside with a housing above the window, and motorized ones need power to each window. Interior shutters fix inside the opening with a drill and a screwdriver.
Darkness and privacy
Closed, a roller shutter makes a room close to dark, with no view. Wood shutters let you choose: tilt for daylight with privacy, close for more, open the panels for the full view.
| Feature | Interior poplar shutters (ours) | Roller shutters |
|---|---|---|
| Mounted | Inside the window opening | Outside, with a housing above |
| View when closed | Tilt for light and privacy | None |
| Sun on the glass | Reduces glare inside | Blocks it outside |
| Install | Drill and screwdriver | Exterior mounting; power if motorized |
