Winter outside
178 freezing nights a year mean ice and snow on anything mounted outside. Interior shutters stay out of the weather entirely and are adjusted from the room.
Changes to the outside of a house
Exterior shutters change how a house looks from the street, so an HOA or city may need to approve them. Interior shutters don't.
Aluminum inside the house
Indoors, aluminum usually appears as a stiffener hidden inside vinyl shutters, not as a shutter on its own. For an interior shutter, solid wood needs no metal core.
