Wide windows split into sections
46% of homes are apartments or condos, where windows are often wide. A wide opening is split into several panels joined by T-posts at the window's own mullions, so the shutter lines up with the glass behind it.
Measure each side three times
With 52% of homes built before 1980, openings that have shifted over the years are common. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom and the height at the left, centre and right, then check both diagonals. If the diagonals differ by more than about ¼ in, a mounting frame covers the difference.
Sun almost overhead in summer
