Wide windows split into sections
51% of homes are apartments or condos, where windows are often wide. A wide opening is split into several panels joined by T-posts at the window's own mullions, so the shutter lines up with the glass behind it.
Low winter sun through south windows
In December the midday sun is only 18° above the horizon here, so it reaches deep into rooms through south-facing windows. Louvers tilted with the room-side edge up send that light toward the ceiling instead of across a screen or a sofa.
Inside or outside the opening
An inside mount sits within the window opening and looks built in, but it needs enough depth for the louvers to tilt. An outside mount fixes to the wall or casing around the window, which suits shallow openings and hides uneven edges. The designer asks which you want for each window.
| Feature | Inside mount | Outside mount | On a mounting frame |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sits | Within the opening | On the wall or casing | Within or over the opening |
| Needs depth for the louvers | Yes | No | Some |
| Hides an uneven opening | No | Yes | Yes |
| Look | Built in | Framed, like trim | Finished edge all round |
Where our shutters fit
Every Shutter Boys shutter is made from solid American poplar to the measurements you take, then shipped to Abbotsford for you to fit. You choose the mount for each window in the designer, and we check the depth against the louver you pick.
The designer shows the price of each window as you add it, in Canadian dollars.
