The windows in Casas Adobes's homes
By age, 1% of Casas Adobes's homes went up before 1950, 35% between 1950 and 1979, 46% between 1980 and 1999 and 19% in 2000 or later.
Half of them are older than 1986, which is the age of window you're most likely measuring here.
In Catalina Foothills, 8 miles away, the share of built before 1980 is much the same as here (35%).

Sun almost overhead in summer
At midday in June the sun stands 81° high here, nearly overhead, so south windows take little direct sun at noon; east and west windows take the most, early and late. Choose louver sizes for those first.
Inside or outside the opening
An inside mount sits within the window opening and looks built in, but it needs enough depth for the louvers to tilt. An outside mount fixes to the wall or casing around the window, which suits shallow openings and hides uneven edges. The designer asks which you want for each window.
| Feature | Inside mount | Outside mount | On a mounting frame |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sits | Within the opening | On the wall or casing | Within or over the opening |
| Needs depth for the louvers | Yes | No | Some |
| Hides an uneven opening | No | Yes | Yes |
| Look | Built in | Framed, like trim | Finished edge all round |
Where our shutters fit
Every Shutter Boys shutter is made from solid American poplar to the measurements you take, then shipped to Casas Adobes for you to fit. You choose the mount for each window in the designer, and we check the depth against the louver you pick.
The designer shows the price of each window as you add it, in US dollars.
