Which type of window should I be considering? Wood vs Vinyl. Most experts will agree this question needs to be answered BEFORE building/installing anything, because once decided upon, most people end up going with the cheaper material anyway. Motorization is an ongoing topic because it’s always evolving. New technologies continue to advance & evolve, which makes us curious about the next big thing. When discussing Motorization I like to use some analogies.
In the past 20 years people have gone through several stages of thought regarding technology. First it was touch screens, then flat screen TVs, wireless phones, GPS systems and apps and most recently Google glasses and AR headsets.
Most experts agree that these devices will become more mainstream and integrated into everyday life, but they’ll be part of our day to day routine for quite awhile. However, just like cell phone addiction has subsided slightly after that phase, I expect people getting caught up in trying to integrate everything to stop paying attention to other things around them. And you know why? Because it would take away from life, and life should come first.
So while the integration of motorization into our lives won’t go anywhere anytime soon, we can probably expect it to get better each year. As manufacturers keep improving upon existing products and integrating multiple ways of controlling lighting, heating, A/C or cooling, blinds, shades, curtains and drapes and many other aspects like those; we’ll see technology trickle down into homes more than ever.
I’m excited for the prospect of adding more functionality to our home automation system. I’ve already added thermostats controlled via Alexa voice control, and I know Amazon Echo and Nest will eventually integrate with other brands. But until then, I’d rather spend less time worrying about it and focus on enjoying life outside my house instead of making sure lights stay off when I leave.
