While this area boasts gorgeous landscapes, many people who live here experience extreme temperatures during the hot summers months. These people often seek relief through air conditioning units which are generally installed outside their homes. 2.) Use multiple shades on each side of the window, alternating them every few days. If light hits only one shade for long periods of time, the rest of the home will feel darker than it really is — especially during summer months.
3.) Install shingles along the lower edge of the top glass panel to help block sunlight further. Not everyone likes this idea, though; some people dislike the added cost. But if you’re concerned about getting sun damage on your windows, you might find it worth paying extra.
4.) Don’t use aluminum frame products for your shutters. Alumimum frames tend to reflect heat better than wooden ones, making for a hotter inside temperature.
5.) Make sure to select a style that matches the architectural features of your property. Some styles have unique requirements like special hinges, custom hardware, additional trimming options, and other details for specific homes or projects. We recommend talking to a local dealer representative who knows these types of things first, rather than finding yourself stuck with something you weren’t expecting!
6.) Avoid dark colors that could hide imperfections caused by the weather and wear-and tear. White, cream, beige, and gray tones should stay consistent no matter the season — but keep in mind that white will fade faster outdoors than indoors, since dirt gets easier to clean away on the insides of buildings. Black tends to hold color well outdoors but looks washed out indoors due to reflections.
