In this first installment of “How to Install a Custom Made Wood Cali shutters,” we will be doing a walkthrough of the installation of custom made wooden door screens in our test unit located in Naples Florida. We cover everything from measuring to cutting and assembly. Please keep in mind these are general instructions, please refer to your local dealer if you want exact measurements for your own home. Our shutters come standard preassembled ready for installation but there could be some minor changes needed depending on the type of screen you order which I am going to go through step wise below. Measurements should be taken prior to ordering because if they don’t match then additional charges apply depending on the measurement discrepancy. Measurement requirements vary greatly among manufacturers and installers therefore measure multiple points and take note of each point individually. If a window does not have enough clearance from the wall, cut down the opening slightly with scissors prior to installing to ensure proper fit. When trimming around doors make certain that no part of the frame touches the threshold. Once installed, all parts must be secured together tightly with screws for long lasting durability. All hardware used should be stainless steel unless specified otherwise, especially hinges and brackets. If possible use quality brass fasteners wherever appropriate. Be careful during assembly since every component needs accurate placement and tightness. Once assembled check each component from top to bottom making sure nothing is loose. Test each joint several times until completely satisfied. Make adjustments accordingly as necessary to achieve correct operation and function. If anything seems crooked just reassemble and adjust again; most problems are easily corrected. Finally once everything looks good check that all components move freely without excessive force. If you notice something that makes noise stop, check the hinge mechanism and tighten any loose screw. If you still find movement issues after tightening everything try adjusting the tensioning bolt(s). After completing the entire assembly procedure ensure that all joints are properly tightened. Check for gaps along edges. Do not forget behind windows if applicable. If the blinds/shutters close too quickly or fail to fully open/close at full open position double check your settings. Most models come complete with instruction sheets however sometimes manufacturers omit information regarding height, width, or even operating temperature range.
