I just finished doing my first week of work for a client and I’m having trouble figuring out exactly why they hired me…and where to focus next. The website was built months ago with no intention to hire someone until today’s event. When booking appointments they ask for info such as email address, phone number, hours available during certain days…etc. They're asking potential customers for basically everything except their credit card + bank account #. From what I've gathered though, I'll receive payments after each appointment once the customer gets further along in their journey and can finally decide to move forward with us. In this edition of “How To Install A Wood Cali Shutter” series, I will show step by step instructions on how to install a beautiful wood clad vinyl window shutters. As some of us already know, installing windows treatments isn’t just plug&play and often requires expertise. If you are thinking about buying and having custom made shute trim installed, be prepared because the whole thing could cost hundreds.
This post is meant to serve as general guidepost only – my experience may not work for yours but it should still help. My wife and I had 2 different experiences working with shutter companies, including myself being on both sides, which was invaluable to me making better decisions next time around. So without further ado, lets get started!
We bought a home with no windows and with the exception of garage doors, they weren’t able to take them down. Our main focus wasn’t really the aesthetics but instead, keeping the house cool. We decided to go with wood exterior grade aluminum cladding and wood siding, knowing that these would keep the sun from hitting those areas. After researching, we settled onto 3 types of vinyl shutters. Some came with handles while others did not. One type simply featured screws along the edges while another required glue to hold them together. Both looked great in person though the handleless ones seemed like less hassle.
Now it took several appointments with each company to figure out exactly what products suited our needs most and whether or not they offered a warranty. Once that happened,they shipped everything via overnight delivery. Each company provided us with a detailed walkthrough explaining every aspect of the project. They both explained in detail how to set-up each window frame and how to measure accurately to ensure a good fit once it arrived.They both assured us that after setting it properly, they wouldn't need our help again until it was ready to use. At some point during setup, however, either of us called and left voicemails explaining all the steps as well as asking questions. When the day finally rolled around, they showed up promptly on schedule. Since we live across town, I went ahead and handled the job myself since it's mostly common sense stuff.
