1. Check Your Window Frame Width
Most of the times people install their California shutters according to measurements taken around the window frame rather than actual width and height dimensions. This leads to a lot frustration when trying to match shutters sizes to frames and finding yourself with mismatched sized shutters due to different installation techniques. If you measure your windows carefully first then you will save yourself a lot of headache down the line.
Caliber offers measurement templates specifically made to fit any type of windows frames. Just download the template, print it, cut it out, place against the window and trace its outline onto paper, and use tape markers to mark every 1″ on each side. Measurements marked across the top edge, bottom edge, left edge and right edges.

Here’s why I believe every homeowner should consider having shutters installed. Here are some other things to keep in mind while researching which type of window coverings will work best for you…
First, a little bit about me. My wife and her family live in Los Angeles. We just purchased my first home with a mortgage loan; we made enough to buy it because she worked fulltime during those years but had no retirement fund saved. For us moving was always going to be tough financially and since the purchase this past summer everything got tougher. My wife now finds herself working part time plus she is paying down debt. She is getting paid $15 per hour less than she did prior to being laid off. Our savings account grew only slightly with each paycheck until late fall, then suddenly went from $10K to $6K before Christmas. And yet somehow, despite all these struggles, we managed to pay cash for a 4 bedroom 2 bath house with 3 car garage and 2 terraces. Our house cost around 300k in 2012. We put 20% down payment on it and financed 100%. A typical interest rate for today would run somewhere around 5%, but due to our situation we ended up at 9.5%. Luckily, thanks to tax refunds and payments our total monthly expenses came nowhere near what they’d been previously. But still I felt stuck in the quicksand myself and tried to find ways to stop spending. So far I haven’t found anything better than putting most bills on auto pay and setting aside 10 days worth of rent and groceries so I wouldn’t go hungry or see empty shelves. Still these strategies won’t allow me to cut back anywhere close to 40-50%.I’ve thought about hiring someone to install windows and doors, however at $100 per day plus materials, I couldn’t justify buying them. I’m currently in the market for quality shutters, so after reading through several companies’ websites, blogs, articles etc, I decided on Shutter boys.
