After travelling nonstop through South America for almost 2 weeks, including visiting Argentina & Chile, I finally arrived in Brazil yesterday evening after spending 5 days on board the cruise ship “Fathom” cruising around Rio de Janeiro. My main purpose was to get away from it all and relax a bit, spend quality…

In today’s episode I cover some topics surrounding the recent Amazon fires. Also I discuss this topic from different perspectives, especially related to politics and economics.

California Shutters are available in many different styles, shapes, colors and materials. They come in both vinyl and composite options. There really aren’t specific trends, but rather general trends that apply to every style/material combo.
The most common trend today is the “wood” style shutters which typically consist either of cedar boards that run vertically along a single wall or a series of horizontal boards attached to vertical posts. The horizontal boards are often stained dark brown while the vertical board will usually be painted white or lightly stained, giving them a nice contrast against the lighter colored walls they’re installed next to. These shutters tend to cost less than other types because they are made primarily of lumber instead of being manufactured from plastic. Wood is still a relatively inexpensive material so this makes sense. If you want something more expensive then consider the faux wood options like those made from real wood veneer. They tend to be slightly pricier than traditional wood shutters but offer better insulation properties. Another popular choice these days are the metal options like galvanized steel, aluminum, bronze, stainless…etc.. Metal is another great value option, especially as prices continue to drop. Metal options can range anywhere from $500-$1500 per window depending on size/style/material.
Another big trend in home improvement is “smart homes”. As technology continues to improve people are buying smarter home systems to save energy costs, cut down on maintenance issues, automate security, monitor temperature, humidity, lighting levels, etc. Smart systems are starting to become cheaper and easier to install for homeowners. Some examples would include smart thermostats, smart doorbell cameras, motion detection lights, smart locks, automated blinds/shutters, etc..
