LOOKING FOR California Shutters? WE CAN HELP!
Here is everything you always wanted to know but could only ask because you couldn’t be bothered to call a company…
This blog covers some of the most common questions we see customers asking us. We hope this helps cut through some of the confusion in choosing shutters and shows people just how simple it really is!
How well does sunlight affect my home/condominium?
Do I really NEED Shutters? If my windows get enough sun during the day why bother installing them? Yes yes, you do definitely need shutters…. And if they aren’t installed correctly, no amount of sun will help your windows stay cool. Even though they’re tinted glass, once too many hours in hot summer months without proper shade, your windowpanes heat up. They begin losing energy due to the lack of protection while getting hammered like nothing else by UV rays, which causes damage to its underlying layer. Not good stuff. Do I REALLY want shutters in my condo? Probably yes! But depending on the size of your property, and how often you travel to sunny destinations, shutting down those gorgeous views can actually decrease your property value (think living next door to your office). At Shutter Boys we believe every client needs to decide if their home is worth giving everything away for the sake of protecting themselves from the harshness of nature. Does my location demand special consideration? Most people overlook the importance of location when trying to determine whether they’ve got enough sunshine. Just because you live somewhere beautiful like Santa Barbara doesn’t mean you automatically qualify for solar power generation or shutters. However, these benefits come at different costs depending upon region. The main question is; “what’s better?” When considering the difference between having your walls covered versus having no cover, the answer lies outside if your home–not indoors. For example, your house gets five times less heat radiation than the surrounding air temperature, so it takes longer to become heated than cooler areas nearby, especially if you live in high traffic areas. So, consider your surroundings before making any drastic changes. Can I afford California Shutters? Depending on the type, style and materials used, each shutter system requires varying amounts of money.
Motorized California Shutters Little River
This is a quick update regarding my California shutters project this summer. I am going to be installing two sets of motorized window shutters on my home/condo building near Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in little river Ca. They will be installed on both the ground floor apartment windows, but only on those units facing north since they already had some other type of energy saving blinds. These motorize shutters should save me lots of electricity and help keep the unit cool during hot summers.
I chose 2 different types of shutter systems. One was a traditional roller top shutter which looks great in any setting but does tend to get noisy once the weather gets cold and ice buildup builds up on them causing them to stick making them less useful than when first installed.
My other choice was a dual pane shutter system called Kipshades because, while being quieter than the standard roller top models, it still provides privacy and security without having glass panes sticking out like most roller top products.
In addition, Kippashade is also equipped with a thermal sensor that senses heat coming through the windows and automatically shuts down power to the motors reducing the temperature inside the house/unit to prevent overheating or freezing of the shutters. So far my initial testing seems positive that these shutters are working well and hopefully, will work better then my existing rollable shades.
So that’s why i decided to install the new ones instead of just replacing the old ones. But before doing anything else i checked out what would be the easiest way of removing the shutters from the current location. After checking around for options, i came across something interesting:
The company, Shutterboys sells custom made wooden doors and frames to fit your shutter size requirements. The doors come ready assembled and are designed specifically for shutters and are usually cheaper overall than buying individual parts from a hardware store.
They sell their door kits to interior design professionals to provide the same exact service they offer homeowners who buy their doors themselves. If you go to and search “California Shutters Little River” you’ll see exactly what I mean. I bought mine from https://www.shuttermaster.

California Shutters are great for adding curb appeal and privacy while saving energy costs. They help reduce summer sun exposure which helps lower utility bills during peak times.
They block light, noise, air infiltration, and moisture in addition to providing protection against extreme weather conditions.
This guide should be a must read before making any purchasing decisions.
Cost of California Shutters in Little River South Carolina
In 2018 the most common type of shutters was made from aluminum; however, they only account for 1% of the residential market in North America. Aluminum shutters tend to be heavier than other materials and less aesthetically pleasing which makes them less desirable to homeowners. For this reason, California style shutters have become increasingly popular over the past few years. These wooden shingles come in different types of finishes which include but aren’t restricted to stained, painted, oiled and lacquered.
There are many benefits to choosing California Shutters for your home. They offer energy efficiency, ease of maintenance and durability while maintaining a modern aesthetic appeal.
Cost is another great perk that comes along with installing California Shutters, especially as you consider adding additional upgrades like blinds or hardware.
California Shutters are manufactured by some of the industry leaders including Shutter Brothers®, Southern Accents®and LumberJocks®. These brands are known among homeowners around the country because of the quality products they provide that exceed customer expectations.

Professional California Shutters Installation In Little River
If you’re going to purchase exterior shuttering products like wood windows, doors, and shutters, you should expect the job be completed professionally. If you aren’t ready to invest in high quality materials and skilled craftsmen, consider hiring a professional contractor instead. Not only does the project cost less than buying the items and doing the work yourself, but having professionals working alongside can help ensure that each step of the process runs smoothly.
Here’s everything you’ll need to keep in mind while hiring contractors to install your home improvements.
1) Ask lots of questions during the bid stage.
Ask plenty of questions during the bidding phase of your project — particularly around warranty information— because this will serve as your first line of defense in case something goes awry down the road.
2) Be wary of contracts.
Make sure you read and understand every part of your contract carefully before signing anything. And remember, you’ve got options; don’t just accept whatever conditions they put forth. A good rule of thumb is if you’re uncomfortable signing something then ask them whether you can get another offer without committing yet.
3) Don’t skimp on warranties and guarantees.
Your contractor isn’t going to stand behind the quality of his/her work forever. So it pays dividends both to get the strongest possible terms available and to shop other bids thoroughly. Make sure warranties protect against problems like rot damage after 20 years of wear, which happen frequently in wooden homes.
4) Find someone who understands the industry standards.
This won’t necessarily mean taking a recommendation from friends or family members, although those recommendations can certainly come with some credibility. Instead, find vendors through consumer reviews on sites like Yelp. The people you meet on these websites tend to be experts within their field who know their stuff inside and out. Plus, most companies offering reviews actually reward reviewers for writing positive ones.
5) Avoid shady practices.
There are plenty of ways to rip customers for hundreds of dollars without getting caught, so take care to watch out for potential red flags. One common scam involves subcontractors charging additional fees for things like “additional labor” or “extra material,” when they really mean “the same amount paid plus profit.

Wood California Shutters vs. Vinyl California Shutters?
Wood California Shutters offer a unique blend of beauty, durability and affordability. Our wood shutters are manufactured locally, meaning you will be able to get them installed the same day they arrive at your home. We only use certified installers who specialize in installing high quality, custom built California shutters. They’ll work side-by-side with you to ensure everything fits perfectly, no matter what the size of window. And because our products are made entirely with natural materials, they won’t rot like vinyl California shutters, warp like cheap plastic shutters, crack or peel away paint like aluminum shutters, or fade colors like some cheaper shutters. If, after reading this post, you would like us to recommend the best wooden shutters for you, just send me an email with the dimensions of windows in your home, and I’d gladly tell you which ones we sell.
Vinyl California Shutters: Most manufacturers use thin layers of PVC film wrapped around cardboard cores to provide the strength needed for most installations. These inexpensive shutters come in a wide range of sizes and styles, ranging anywhere from 1×12″ to 3×30″. They typically cost half as much as other brands but tend to fall apart sooner. Some shutters may include hardware, but often these are simply glued onto the edges rather than being staked into place.

In this article I provide details about some of the best manufacturers/suppliers offering the most advanced premium and custom shutters products. And, because many homeowners today use flat panels instead of traditional sliding doors, I’m going to explore both options.
Buy California Shutters Online:
If you haven’t seen these beautiful California shutters yet but would like to learn more than just what they will look like, then read ahead. We will talk about some of the benefits of each type and provide links where you could get them installed locally.
But first things first;
We should be talking about which window treatment is best suited to fit every type of home and climate. This isn’t a question of simply picking something expensive based on looks. Instead, there are specific factors we consider when selecting the perfect material that helps maximize energy efficiency and comfort while preserving views. These considerations include cost effectiveness, appearance, ease of maintenance, durability, thermal properties and noise issues among other qualities.
And although the term “California Shutters” conjures images of tropical rainforests full of exotic birds and flora, the truth is those homes usually feature large windows rather than smaller ones covered with traditional blinds and shades. But regardless of whether your house opens up to outdoor space or faces downtown traffic below street level, there are numerous considerations for choosing the ideal solution for your little river home or apartment condo in South Florida.
Some of our favorite brands offer everything from vinyl and aluminum frames made specifically for the area with high heat gain, through faux finishes that mimic the beauty of real woods including cedar shake, mahogany and redwood, to modern materials such as metal and fiberglass framed units designed for coastal areas. These shutters come in sizes ranging from small bedroom and bathroom sized openings to larger wall toppers suitable for whole walls and big picture windows.
One thing all our suppliers agree upon is that custom designs are the way forward. They point out that California manufacturers often overlook an entire category in terms of design customization since only few people pay particular attention to the exterior aesthetics of their condominium buildings or waterfront houses.
Best California Shutters Little River
There will be continued growth in sales and installations of both vinyl and aluminum shutters in 2022. However, this is not necessarily good news because manufacturers should really be addressing the issues associated with each material. Vinyl products currently offer some advantages due to improved safety standards and maintenance requirements. They still present problems like the potential for warping and mildew buildup but these concerns are often addressed through newer materials being added to existing systems. Aluminum offers many benefits including resistance to wind damage, longer life expectancy than comparable vinyl alternatives, and a wider range of design options. Some homeowners prefer wooden windows primarily for aesthetic purposes – while they come with inherent drawbacks like rotting, moldy frames and wood rot around window sills. These homeowners usually opt for faux shutters, typically made of polycarbonate plastic or composite cellulose fiberglass laminates. While these types of products are not nearly as attractive as real wood slats, the market remains strong enough to keep them competitive against natural wood.
In addition, California homes use the majority of exterior doors manufactured today to replace old single hung patio door models. Although this trend towards replacement was somewhat surprising to me since I had assumed most people would stick with older styles, it makes sense in some ways due to increasing energy efficiency requirements imposed on residential customers across the country. Door hardware designs are undergoing significant changes for better security, easier cleaning, stronger hinges, stronger handles, and lighter weight mechanisms.
Most importantly for home owners, the rising cost of energy continues to squeeze construction budgets. Although some builders and contractors continue to push for higher performance building techniques, these improvements tend to get watered down for budgetary reasons instead of being implemented correctly for optimum insulation effectiveness. For home buyers who wish to invest in high performing insulated buildings, they must either buy at a lower price point via multiple bids or wait until a contractor becomes willing to pay extra for superior performance. Either way, unless a buyer can afford a house built under the highest standards possible, they are left without options and simply settle for less efficient, poorly constructed structures. It’s no surprise that demand for high quality construction continues to increase.
Our Promise: Quality California Shutters, Affordable Pricing
We believe that quality should be affordable. We strive to offer a wide range of products at competitive prices.
In this article, I will provide answers to some frequently asked questions regarding shutters. Some of these Q& A’s pertain only to certain styles or brands of shutters. However, they apply generally across many different types of shutters.
What is “California” Shuttering?
Shutting refers to window coverings made specifically for use in the sunny climate of southern states like Arizona and Florida where temperatures often exceed 100 degrees F during summertime months. These types of curtains typically include aluminum frames covered by polyester fabric panels. They’re designed for both heat control and privacy purposes.
Why Should I Use Shutters in my Home Instead Of Windows or Other Covering Systems?
One reason would be energy efficiency. Many experts recommend replacing old windows with Energy Star rated glass because they tend to be significantly less efficient than newer models of tempered glass which are required by most building codes. Additionally, many windows leak air through gaps around them causing heating & cooling problems. If air leaks cannot be eliminated then adding insulation behind them could help prevent overheating of space inside your home. Another advantage of installing shutters is increased security. By keeping people who shouldn’t see the outside world away, it reduces the risk of intruders getting into your house undetected while still providing ample ventilation. Also, it can keep burglars away since no light shines onto the ground below your window. Lastly, shutters allow homeowners to customize their homes’ appearance without having to spend thousands of dollars to replace entire walls.
How Do You Install Shutters?
Installing shutters usually involves hiring contractors but there are a few things you can do yourself. Most companies selling shutters will send along a step by step manual showing exactly how to install each type of shutter including instructions on removing existing blinds and drapes first. Once everything is ready, you just put the shutter panel down and fasten every screw securely using small flat head screws instead of nails. When installing shutters, always remember to work from the bottom up; starting with securing shutters against the wall studs closest to the floor first rather than the ceiling.
We understand that home improvement projects take time away from being able to focus on other things. If at first a shuttering project seems overwhelming – Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Our ShutterBoy’s Creed will help guide both homeowner and installer through the entire experience step-by-step.
1. Keep Calm and Carry On – We aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, but sometimes life gets crazy busy. So keep calm and carry on, because after this install day ends, we’ll be back on track with another DIY project like clockwork.
2. Make Sure Things Line Up Properly – Because every shutter has unique specs, they must be ordered specifically for each window, which makes it extremely important to have them matched correctly. Here’s why: Showers use different sizes than windows, so your bathroom shutters should be sized properly to ensure proper function. Windows can close only vertically while showers usually close horizontally. And some shower windows will automatically close during certain times of the day. Our team knows how to avoid these issues. Check out our handy FAQ page for answers to common questions.
3. Set Some Goals For Yourself Along the Way – One small thing leads to another, and before you know it, you’re staring down your next big challenge. But don’t get overwhelmed! Just remember to stay positive and follow along with us, and we promise you won’t go far wrong.
4. Keep Learning About Your Project – Every week brings new projects, products, and techniques to try, and every day offers opportunities to learn something new. Be willing to read, watch videos, speak to experts, ask friends — whatever helps you better prepare yourself for installing your own custom shutters. A little research goes a long way!
5. Have Fun Doing It – Our customers love working with us because we approach everything seriously and with excitement about sharing our passion for quality workmanship, but on days like today, it really feels good just having fun together. Our team loves helping homeowners discover new ways to brighten their homes, and we can always find a few laughs – especially when we encounter those “I’m lost” moments. After all, who says you can’t have a blast doing amazing things?

California shutters are a great way to increase privacy, block light, reduce noise and bring color inside. They come in different styles, shapes, colors, materials, and sizes. A few years ago they started becoming popular because homeowners wanted to go green, but since then the demand just keeps going higher and higher. People love the fact the they can use shades to help protect themselves from the sun, while still enjoying some added natural sunlight and bringing in warmer tones during fall and winter months. Today, home improvement contractors can often add window covers to homes through the remodel stage of construction which helps save clients hundreds of dollars per project. But why should you consider adding shutters onto your windows? Here are 5 reasons you need to get installing them soon..
1. Privacy & Protection From Sunshine
Many people worry that having shutters installed along windows could look “cute”, but in reality many design experts claim that the opposite happens — they actually work better than traditional blinds! When properly used, shutters provide additional protection against heat gain/loss in summer and warmth during cold days. As well, with proper placement and size, they will effectively stop glare from the outside world making reading easier and improving visibility in rooms where they exist. Plus, if used correctly (properly sized), shutting down a portion of the view outwards can improve ventilation allowing air to circulate naturally around living areas without having to constantly rely on AC units.
2. Heat Gain / Loss Control
By closing shutters completely, this in effect creates shade and coolness indoors. For those who prefer keeping the space warm, however, having shutters partially closed or fully opened offers several advantages including helping regulate indoor temperature levels, preventing excessive heating, reducing energy bills, stopping hot outdoor temperatures getting through cracks in walls/floors, protecting children from overexposure to harmful UV rays, and increasing the effectiveness of window washing systems.

Client Testimonials

“Hello Marco,

We are thrilled with the shutters! What a huge difference. The rooms feel bigger and brighter and now it feels like our place.
Your team of Tony and Keanu were fantastic. Thank you for such a short turn around time. I will be happy to leave reviews. I am having issues with my server but will remedy that in the morning. We are very happy. This has been a very positive experience for Steve, a pleasant distraction, and one that will continue to give him pleasure.
Thanks for being a part of our life changes.”

Toronto, ON

We met Marco just over 2 weeks ago. He was meticulous in measuring the windows and doors on our main floor. It was a very pleasant experience. We decided to go with the high end option of California shutters as they complemented the crown molding in our home. Marco’s crew, Tony and Keanu installed the shutters yesterday quickly and efficiently. They are great guys. We are absolutely delighted with how clean, bright and beautiful our home looks. The shutters make a huge difference. We have dealt with a lot of contractors in our various homes, and this was probably the best experience we have had. I highly recommend Marco and his team.

Toronto, ON

I recently had the wood shutters installed by Marco in my 2800 sq ft new built house. Its a corner lot, and there were 33 windows and a patio door to be dressed up by the wood shutters. The price was very competitive and the quality was superb. Marco and his team did a great job and the whole installation was completed in one afternoon. The wood shutters are of good quality, the finishes are smooth, adding great value to the already beautiful house. I am very happy with both the product and the services provided by Marco. Highly recommended.
