This is a quick update regarding my California shutters project this summer. I am going to be installing two sets of motorized window shutters on my home/condo building near Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in little river Ca. They will be installed on both the ground floor apartment windows, but only on those units facing north since they already had some other type of energy saving blinds. These motorize shutters should save me lots of electricity and help keep the unit cool during hot summers.
I chose 2 different types of shutter systems. One was a traditional roller top shutter which looks great in any setting but does tend to get noisy once the weather gets cold and ice buildup builds up on them causing them to stick making them less useful than when first installed.
My other choice was a dual pane shutter system called Kipshades because, while being quieter than the standard roller top models, it still provides privacy and security without having glass panes sticking out like most roller top products.
In addition, Kippashade is also equipped with a thermal sensor that senses heat coming through the windows and automatically shuts down power to the motors reducing the temperature inside the house/unit to prevent overheating or freezing of the shutters. So far my initial testing seems positive that these shutters are working well and hopefully, will work better then my existing rollable shades.
So that’s why i decided to install the new ones instead of just replacing the old ones. But before doing anything else i checked out what would be the easiest way of removing the shutters from the current location. After checking around for options, i came across something interesting:
