Wood shutters are still the most popular type of window covering used today. They come as both internal and external mounted products, but they excel most when they are installed internally due to energy efficiency benefits and lower maintenance requirements. Most residential wooden shutters available for sale will be constructed of either pine or redwood lumber because these woods tend to be strong enough while having good resistance against rot, insects, mildew, mold, fungus and other pests of various types. Other species include cedar and cypress lumber which may offer better moisture tolerance than pine lumber.
Vinyl shutters have gained popularity since they first came onto the market back in 1994. Unlike true vinyl siding made from polyvinylchloride plastics. California home builders tend to fall into either “traditional” or “modern” categories — traditional being older, stick built houses and modern typically meaning “new, post World War 2.” Both styles come with advantages and disadvantages, especially in terms of environmental impact and livability.

But while bamboo is great because it looks natural, many people say it smells bad. We will likely see continued use of bamboo shutters until the next big fad passes and another trend takes shape.
One thing that continues to be popular today is vinyl shutters, which offer an extremely strong window covering solution with minimal maintenance. They provide good privacy, light control and protection from high winds, yet remain relatively affordable. Vinyl is made just like plastic but instead of being molded into an endless array of shapes, it is cut into sheets that get nailed onto wooden frames. Once installed, you won’t notice the difference unless someone points it out.

However, you should definitely consider installing stone veneer around doors and windows rather than vinyl because it gives the appearance of actual rocks embedded in concrete or masonry. Stone veneers are typically easier to work with than regular vinyl panels, especially if you own a pneumatic hammer drill capable of breaking through cement mortar joints. Another advantage of using real stones is that they can block rainwater effectively in rainy seasons or keep insects away during hot summers. While they cost more than vinyl, stone veneer is an essential part of exterior wall systems today. When choosing color schemes and finishes for house exteriors, stay away from anything bright blue — if water gets inside, it stains everything it touches.

2. Make sure you measure carefully and accurately because you don’t want to install them too tight or loose so check the measurements again if they differ.
3. Once you get your measurement correct, then cut the pieces according to size and place them back together. Make sure that you align them correctly so no gaps occur on either side.
4. Next step is to attach the brackets onto the frame and secure them properly. Use screws or nails, whichever suits you better.
5. After attaching the brackets, now you can move forward with hanging the shutters. Start by screwing down the first bracket on top of the wall. Next, you need to screw in the bottom bracket of the same length.
