CAN I COME SEE YOUR California Shutters SHOWROOM OR FACTORY?
To be honest, this was actually written several years ago but it still holds true today. If you live in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee or Virginia then shuttering your home doesn’t usually mean installing custom made California shutters. Most homes built around these states have already had some type of aluminum window treatment put into them; either vinyl or fiberglass storm screens. So why bother spending hundreds of dollars on custom made wooden shutters if they wouldn’t stick anyway? These types of homeowners could just get some extra screening material or install vinyl blinds instead. Well the reason isn’t because they won’t work well or aren’t high quality materials. Those are valid reasons. But the main reason is simply price. Vinyl and Fiberglass storms cost less than $50 per window while Custom Made Wooden Shutters cost anywhere from $150-$300+per window(and sometimes higher). They also take longer to install since each board needs to go through 4 different steps: measuring, cutting, gluing, sanding & finishing. On top of those costs is the fact that most manufacturers will only provide a 2 inch overlap which adds another $80 to the total project cost making DIY projects nearly impossible without hiring a professional installer. Not to mention, the average homeowner who does attempt this DIY method often ends up ripping out half of his/her new shutters after realizing how long and frustrating the job really turns out to be once installed. While vinyl screens and blinds offer immediate gratification, those styles of treatments have drawbacks of their own. Vinyl screens tend to fade quickly due to sunlight exposure, whereas Blinds come lose with wear and tear over time.
