Our company was started in 2009 by my brother, Chris Gaudette, who had previously owned an exterior painting business for 12 years (which he sold). I joined him shortly thereafter. Together, we created Shutterboy’s Wood Products Inc. and our first product line.
In 2013, we launched our custom made window treatments division and began offering custom designed window coverings. Since then, we’ve expanded to become one of Southern New Mexico’s premier manufacturers and installers of both commercial grade and residential grade wooden shutters. As a result, many people refer us as “the shutter boys”!

We’re constantly updating articles to ensure they stay relevant but there will be some changes coming down the road. California Shutters come in many different styles including Wood/Wood Blinds, Sliding Glass Doors, and Custom Aluminum Shades, which include custom window treatments, roller shades and roman blinds. All California shutters offer energy efficiency, thermal insulation, privacy/security, durability, versatility and ease of use. Most of them are made with high quality materials like Vinyl, aluminum, steel or fiberglass. Here’s a quick overview of each type:
Faux Wood/Wood Shutters are typically used for residential applications due to cost savings, however, vinyl faux wood shutters are available that provide similar benefits. They install onto existing windows without removing them; most often installed during the winter months for added warmth & security. Faux Wood / Wooden Shades will help increase natural light while blocking unwanted heat. Available options include standard slats, mini-blinds, Venetian blinds or cellular blinds.
Aluminum Shutters are primarily suited for commercial applications and allow for better visibility than other types since they block all views of the outside world. Most owners opt to hire professionals to complete the project due to the amount of preparation required. Even basic products demand a little extra care before they’re installed. There are many different types of shutter products available including vinyl and fiberglass shutters, wooden plantation shutters, composite shutter board, metal and aluminum shutters. Plantation Shutters

Additionally, plantation shutters often sell for less than $200 per panel. One disadvantage however is that they tend to show dirt quite easily; therefore frequent washing must occur to keep them clean and pristine. Maintenance can range anywhere from weekly to monthly depending upon usage, climate and frequency of cleaning.
Vinyl/Composite Shutter Board
This is probably the easiest and least expensive way to protect your windows and doors. Vinyl and Composite Shutters consist primarily of 3 components: hardware, boards and sash. Sashes slide horizontally across the top of the frame allowing ventilation while providing privacy. Some homeowners prefer the ability to control ventilation but this feature requires additional hardware to operate. Hardware includes things such as hinges, latches, storm panels, and handles. Boards are usually comprised of either glass or plastic material. Glass boards offer superior heat retention properties while maintaining privacy. Plastic boards allow greater visibility through large panes, making them ideal for use in homes with children. Shutters manufactured from PVC board are popular because they can withstand heavy winds without cracking.

California shutters are popular alternatives to metal screen windows and sliding doors as they offer similar benefits—they allow natural light inside while protecting against extreme heat and providing privacy protection. They are available in various sizes, shapes, colors, styles, materials, finishes, hardware options and more, offering homeowners many different possibilities.

So How Did These Trends Affect Our Industry In Terms Of Sales And Productivity Over Last Year?:
1. More people than ever are considering replacing their old vinyl siding panels with aluminum cladding because it offers several advantages over traditional siding.

Motorization was first introduced back in 2010. It quickly became popular because people liked being able to control their sun exposure during busy times of day through automated technology. They loved watching movies under the sun while they slept, eating lunch beneath a shade deck, and sipping tea outside without worrying about their garden furniture getting scorched up by midday sunlight. However this popularity did come at a price since these motorized shutters tend to be quite expensive, requiring additional wiring along with complicated programming and maintenance. Luckily some manufacturers started offering remote functionality starting around 2016 which made them affordable enough for regular use on small scale homes, but still left many people unsatisfied due to their high initial costs and high cost of ownership. Since then though there have been improvements across several markets including energy efficiency, reliability, durability, ease of management, and aesthetics. Some brands focus on outdoor usability like Sunseeker and American Shutters who both provide beautiful products with great warranties and customer service support but have less aesthetically pleasing designs than other companies like us. If you’re considering your next step in home improvement projects this will help you determine some key facts regarding which type of shutters would be optimal for your space. If you live in or around Litchfield Park then chances are good you’ll find yourself choosing custom made built shutters rather than just installing standard vinyl shutters. While both types come with benefits they each offer different looks and styles along with various installation alternatives. When trying to decide whether wood or vinyl would better fit my needs I took these factors into consideration:
• Budget/Cost- Per dollar spent on either standard vinyl window coverings versus professionally installed timber slats will produce similar overall coverage. However; standard vinyl offers superior protection against fading due to UV rays while timber gives a traditional appearance but isn’t protected. Both options cost approximately $25 per square foot. Vinyl shutters can usually cost less because only half of a frame must generally be covered during install whereas in the case of Timber Slats every inch requires covering — resulting in a higher initial price tag. Customized wooden panels will run about twice as expensive as standard vinyl, so again depending on your financial situation that could tip the scales towards timbers.
• Maintenance Cost- Whether it’s your choice to use regular maintenance products versus stain repelling treatments will largely depend upon personal preference. Because wood frames naturally darken and soften in appearance standard maintenance should suffice unless you’d like to continue maintaining them every few years. Wood shutters should be cleaned regularly including wiping down after cleaning them to prevent dirt buildup that will cause grime marks. Standard care tips include keeping windows clean during periods of rainy weather to avoid staining issues. Wiping down frequently stained frames can help keep unsightly stains at bay but may also make things worse due to potential moisture absorption/retention. Again, the same applies to regular maintenance for vinyl siding as well. Regular washing helps remove dust and other debris. Vacuuming, sweeping and mopping work especially well in damp conditions. For those who prefer wood over vinyl and desire extra security against insect infestations a quality exterior grade timber treatment (like Stain Guard & Protect ) would provide effective prevention versus a simpler DIY solution.

However, the average cost for a project ranges between $2,500-$3,000 and usually varies widely based on the complexity of a job.
We recommend hiring professional installers whenever possible because it is their expertise that makes these installations run smoothly, efficiently and safely. But sometimes, especially for DIY projects, having an experienced handyman on hand can save a huge amount of frustration down the road. We highly recommend talking to your friendly neighbors first just to see if anyone knows someone in an industry that does shutters. This way you’ll avoid getting stuck with an inexperienced installer (and the potential headache).
