In this blog post I am going to take the reader through step by step instructions on Installing a motorization system to a single door California Shutter. We will be installing the best available motor systems on a standard double hung window. These motors are typically used on the bottom half of the glass, however they could easily apply to other windows types like sliding shutters, French doors and bi fold patio doors. For ease of explanation, we will be working on the left side door of the home shown below. If this was a condo unit the same steps would apply except for some modifications.
We will install a custom designed bracket which attaches onto the existing hardware of the window frame. Next we will mount the top section of the motor. This piece will hold all electronics including a remote control box and power supply. Once mounted, we will attach the lower part of the motor to the brackets and then connect everything together. Lastly, we will apply silicone caulk along the perimeter of the entire assembly. We will repeat these actions to complete the opposite side of the window. When finished both sides should look similar to the image above.
This guide assumes that we are dealing with a single door California shutter that does not include the option to raise the glass.
