1. Write posts that people read. People who aren’t following you in real life probably aren’t interested in reading long form content on Medium…so you should be writing things specifically aimed at people outside your own circles/audience. 2. Be consistent. Don’t schedule yourself to post once a day; instead, aim for several times per week. But definitely have enough in reserve to publish whenever something pops up that warrants publishing. I’m really bad at scheduling myself for consistency (and usually fall back onto posting when I haven’t written anything else), but I still manage to deliver 2-3x weekly on average. And sometimes I get behind, so that’s ok 🙂
3. Make sure people notice. Most blogs end up getting abandoned quickly after launch unless you spend time actively promoting them. So put effort into finding people who follow you already. Share links to articles you liked, tag folks publicly on photos, mention you’re doing this, talk about the topic, ask questions about it, etc. Use the tools at medium.

This was originally posted in 2019 but I wanted to repost because this information hasn’t changed since then. We’ve seen some changes however and some things will probably be different the next year. So, here’s an update for 2020 and something I hope everyone uses. If you’re considering installing shutters in Texas or Arizona chances are they won’t meet these standards and this guide would still apply just fine 🙂
If you live in round rock, why does anyone install shutters?! Well, they do help keep your house cooler in summer months and warmer during winter months, which makes them great options if you’re going through hot weather all the time. Also, depending on what type of window treatments you use, you could get an energy savings benefit and lower heating cost during those months while keeping up with air conditioning costs. Additionally, many people feel like having shutters installed gives your home/condominium a better appearance. It really depends on who installs them though, so check reviews of any company you decide to hire.
Nowadays, the majority of products available through stores such as Lowe’s, Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc… include warranty cards with the purchase. These warranties usually cover the frame to some degree, although most brands state “all parts” in the description under customer service section on the website. Most companies offer lifetime warranties on the frames and hardware, including custom designs. However, you should always call each provider individually to see if any other components outside of the actual frame come with a longer warranty than stated above. Many manufacturers are offering extended coverage for certain materials used in building such as oak wood, aluminum extrusions, steel frames, glass panels, etc.. Some will only extend coverage of specific items, such as hinges or latches, whereas others will provide coverage for each part of your construction. For example, American Clad offers 5 years on metal windows and doors, 10 yr on vinyl siding & trim, and 15 yrs on clapboard material. All in all, these policies vary widely so read everything carefully and make sure you understand exactly what you are buying. Remember, no matter where you buy, be prepared for additional charges to put your project together.

California Window Treatments: A Brief History
Invented in San Francisco in 1883, California windows started making appearances in American homes back in 1896. By 1901, many states had adopted the concept, including New Jersey, Rhode Island, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Missouri, Washington, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, Illinois, Ohio, Maryland, Maine, Colorado, West Virginia, Kansas, Tennessee, South Carolina and Nebraska. California Shutters quickly became popular because they offered a good balance between privacy and light control for homeowners who couldn’t afford custom built home theaters or offices.
By 1921, manufacturers produced almost half of the total window blind market, which was estimated to reach $30 million in sales by 1931.
Today’s California shutters can offer anywhere from 8″ to 42″. Shower Doors come in sizes ranging from 10′ x 16′, 15’x 20′, 24’x 40″, 27’x 54′, 30’x 60′, 36’x 72′. Some come with doors that slide horizontally while other just roll up vertically. Many modern designs feature a glass door insert that slides inside the frame allowing the entire panel to completely retract away from view. Sliding panels usually include track systems that allow them to fully retract, leaving only small gaps between them and the main opening. They’re great options for people looking for added style without having to sacrifice privacy. Traditional roller shades are still widely used today (though there aren’t as many made anymore), especially in rural areas like North Dakota and Oklahoma. These shades often use special fabrics or vinyls to increase shade strength. For those who prefer natural colors, bamboo is becoming increasingly common.

They looked like big boxes with little screens covering them so you couldn’t see outside!
