We talked extensively back in 2017 about different types of shutters, which include traditional wooden shutters, vinyl shutters, composite shutters, faux shutters and sliding patio doors. Today we focus on the benefits of each style.
Wooden shutters come in several styles including; plantation shutters, handcrafted, custom made, and vintage. Each type offers some unique characteristics depending upon price point, maintenance options and overall aesthetics. They can be installed either around exterior windows (including double hungs and casement models), or interior bay and patio door openings.
Vinyl shutters typically offer lower cost points than other materials but they do wear down easily and must be replaced periodically. Some vinyl designs also feature aluminum louvers, which provide added protection against rain coming through the slats. These products tend to remain lighter weight than wood alternatives allowing them to handle higher winds and less severe weather conditions while still protecting homes from extreme heat or cold temperatures during the winter. Typically used around exterior windows, these shutters will only cover half of the window opening unless they are paired with another product design like vinyl vertical blinds.
