In this post, I am going to talk about some common questions I get regarding California shutters. These include;
What type of window cover should I install?
How big should my windows be?

We will go through each question and tell you why they should use a premium Wood California Shutter instead of other brands like Lowes or Big Lots. We will go through several different options including Vinyl, Aluminum, Timber, Fiberglass, Steel and Clad Wood Options. Each option of course has advantages and disadvantages depending on your project needs and price range. So lets dive deeper into each aspect first.
1) Type of Window Covering Should I Install: If you’re just getting started building a home then most DIY projects begin with installing vinyl. However, If you already have some experience with painting, or remodeling, then aluminum framing would be better suited for your next venture. But remember this choice doesn’t really matter until you’re ready to paint because once the walls are painted, you won’t notice the difference between them anyways.
2) Size Of Windows: Most people install 1″ thick glass, however 2-3″, especially above 10′ tall buildings, gives amazing views, energy savings, and privacy. As long as your house and frame size allow for 2 or 3 inches of thickness, most contractors can cut those down to fit any frame without issue. Don’t forget about the top and base trim which adds around half a inch to each side of the window opening.
3) Will This Product Fit My Project Correctly?: When choosing windows for your new construction project always consider your location and climate. Northern Canada winters, Southern US summers, hot humid areas and dry desert climates will demand thicker framing materials. For example windows installed in the desert often must have special insulation added due to excessive heat loss. Another thing to consider is whether your new structure will stand vertically or horizontally. Depending on the roof pitch angle and vertical plane the building could benefit greatly from taller frames.
