This DIY article will talk about motorization trends for shutters, along with other options like automatic retractors and remote control devices. I’m going to include some specific options and install tips on how they work together. Here’s some information on my current project. In this case, I’m installing new doors instead of windows because the existing ones wouldn’t be able to handle this job due to the size.
My next step was checking out some DIY articles on the internet. One thing that really stood out to me was how many people put their shutters facing north with them being closed during winter months. If you can swing the extra cost, just get those shutters installed south side down to block sun light and lower electricity bills in the summer months. We’ll explain why below.
Another trend worth mentioning is the fact that these days, most shutters come preinstalled on casings made specifically for them. They usually take advantage of special channels in the frame which provide air circulation while reducing condensation buildup inside the casing. These pre-made kits often incorporate blinds as well but with a different opening mechanism than regular curtains. 1. Wood Shutters: These come in many different varieties including; Vinyl, Aluminium/Roller blinds, Cloth/Fabric, Wooden blinds, Fiberglass etc.. They vary greatly depending on size, design and material used. Wood shutters tend to be fairly cheap and easy to install but they only provide UV protection (UVB rays), not UVA Rays Protection (UVA).
2. Aluminum Sliding Windows: As the name suggests aluminium sliding windows allow the window to slide open or closed. If you live in hot climates these shutters will save energy while providing security. Most people use them because of the aesthetics of the windows but some of us just like the fact that when the sun shines through those windows it feels like being outside. The main downside however is you cant see anything inside the house whilst they are open but thats ok most doors dont lock anyway ?.
3. Custom Made Shutters: Some people prefer buying a readymade or prefabricated shutter than installing one themselves, this could be due to price, convenience and ease of installation. But if you really enjoy the DIY side of things why not try making your own shutters yourself. Its cheaper than hiring professionals especially for large projects.
4. Roller Blinds: This is another great way to cover a window without blocking your view. Unlike shutters rollerblinds also offer privacy when drawn together, although not as effectively as shutters. A good idea for anyone wanting to add light control to the house or office.
5. Glass Window Panes: When buying glass windows you should always buy tempered double glazed windows. Tempered is the key word here, double glazing. They help prevent breakage caused by extreme heat gain from sunlight during summertime and cold temperature during winter months. Double glazings consist of 2 separate panes that seal each other and reduce heat transfer. Also known as Insulating glass.

From custom window treatments to unique paint colors, homeowners today often feel empowered to add personality to their property while maintaining their style preferences.
2. Color Trends
Color trends are ever evolving, but they tend to fall under three categories. First, color schemes that bring warmth and comfort are popular among homebuyers and renters who seek a feeling of coziness and relaxation. These include light blues, greens and yellows paired with warm neutrals, whites and grays; soft pastels; rustic hues; earth tones. Second, neutral and white palettes remain highly sought after because they work well across multiple styles and designs. California shutters are made with real cedarwood boards. Cedar Wood was used long ago because it looks great with traditional architecture styles like Victorian and Craftsmans style homes. As cedars became harder to acquire due their endangered status many alternatives were available including bamboo and other wooden shutters which still work well but they lack the classic look that cedar brings to home exteriors. Today high quality California shutters should be built with the same woods found in original vintage shutters to retain that authentic character.
Cedarwood shutters tend to be lighter weight than typical vinyl or aluminum composite shutters and therefore provide better insulation against heat transmission during hot days and cold nights. They allow light to enter freely through windows and doors during warm winter days and keep out natural daylight while blocking unwanted sunlight through large picture windows in bright summer sun hours. Additionally these shutters block wind chill breezes that cause premature aging of house interiors. Traditional solid pine wood slats and panels are most commonly seen on residential projects today but some manufacturers offer modern options such as faux stone veneer cladding with simulated stonewalls inside their wood shutters. These faux walls are constructed with molded fiberglass using special tools and techniques designed specifically for this manufacturing operation called “molding”. If you see something similar to this on your project ask yourself who manufactured them because chances are good it wasn’t a standard company making mass produced items for every builder.
Most custom built door and window trim and architectural details will utilize real oak, cherry, maple, mahogany and teak woods that are native species and often times available in reclaimed lumber yards across North America. For additional cost savings some builders opt for synthetic materials such as MDF instead of true wood products. Although both MDF and real trees come from sustainable sources they just aren’t organic material so care must be taken when choosing to purchase either type of paneling.
Real wood panels are usually painted white or stained dark gray colors in order to blend into existing decor and the appearance of the exterior facade without competing with the overall beauty of the building project. Modern designs sometimes feature decorative accents like colored moldings and hardware finishes, which are optional extras but highly recommended.
