OUR SHUTTER BOY’S CREED
In this post I will be talking about some things that come to my attention since 2018 in terms of shutters; these include window treatments in general but mostly focusing on Cali shutters specifically…. Here are some points that stick out to me after spending several years working with them.
1. Customization and personal style should always trump utility. If you want something for function use (light blocking), you probably want the most common design in your area. But there are other times when your home needs a little added warmth or privacy — especially indoors. Maybe you live in a house with many large rooms, which doesn’t lend well to blinds. Or perhaps the sun just shines through your windows way too much during summertime.
2. Make sure your house/home office looks like no one else owns it. Your space shouldn’t feel cramped or closed in. You’d rather see natural light streaming in than having walls around you. At least until daylight savings hits mid March. Then again, you could easily get away with less sun exposure by adding another shade cloth, but why would you have to put yourself under those types of restrictions? A good rule is “the sky’s the limit” when it comes to shades. We suggest choosing styles that match the overall vibe of your property and allow plenty of outdoor views without getting stuck in neutral.
3. The color palette matters too. Think outside the box. Colors are powerful enough that they carry emotion. So pick colors that speak to your soul. Even better if you’re planning a big renovation, try to steer clear of neutrals unless absolutely necessary. Color psychology says bold hues tend to inspire positive feelings while calming down negative ones. So if you find you need a boost in confidence, go with blue. For depression, red. Green boosts creativity and growth and makes people happy. Yellow inspires optimism and happiness. Purple helps us focus and stay productive.
4. No matter how high quality your shutters are made, you still won’t last forever. There are only so many seasons left before winter arrives. When the wind picks up, snow begins falling and ice forms across the ground.
WHAT ARE California Shutters?
California shutters come in four different types, each designed for specific purposes.
Wood shutters were used primarily during World War II, but they quickly fell out of fashion because of their unattractive appearance

All of these materials have advantages and disadvantages when it comes to being installed properly and correctly in a home. However, it should be noted that aluminum is most recommended due to its ability to resist temperature changes caused by cold or hot seasons. On the other hand, wooden shutters usually perform better than aluminum ones, although wood does absorb sound much faster than metal so care must be taken if choosing to install this type material.
In summary, all of the above mentioned products offer various benefits and drawbacks. Depending on the climate conditions where your house is located, shuttering can protect windows or walls effectively. For example, if your building faces extreme temperatures, it would be wise to go for glass panels rather than solid wooden doors or opaque shutters. If on the other hand, your location experiences regular rainy days, then shuttering can help reduce humidity levels inside, thus helping you save energy costs.
