LOOKING FOR California Shutters? WE CAN HELP!

California shutters are made with high pressure laminated veneer lumber which makes them extremely durable while still maintaining great aesthetics and energy efficiency. They come available in various designs like traditional styles, modern styles, French doors, plantation style windows. We offer custom design and fabrication options that allow us to provide custom shutters that match the unique architectural details found inside your home. If you are looking for something different than your current window treatments then we have many other products that can help enhance your exterior appearance.
California Shutters are designed with multiple layers of glass to protect against UV rays, dirt, and moisture. They also block light in order to reduce glare.
We install all types of California shutters including vinyl, aluminum, composite fiberglass, wood, and metal. All our installations are performed in house in order to guarantee quality workmanship.

Our Promise: Quality California Shutters, Affordable Pricing
If you own a home in the San Francisco Bay Area or Silicon Valley area and love the feeling of sunshine pouring through windows while enjoying your favorite beverages outdoors, then these products will be perfect fit for you. Whether they come with screens like our popular Casper® screen series, traditional wooden shutters, or both; they’re guaranteed to keep you cool during hot weather, and protect against dust and insects during winter months.
The most common type of window covering used around California today includes some form of wood blinds, which include vertical slats made from wood, vinyl, or aluminum with horizontal rails attached on either side of the opening. Blinds are often designed to provide privacy while still allowing light to enter. They usually allow for full view of people outside. Some types of blinds are operated manually by turning knobs or pushing levers, whereas other kinds are motorized or automated. They typically use cords or tracks to raise and lower them.
In addition to wood blinds, many homeowners install roller shades instead. These operate similarly to Venetian blinds except they roll up along horizontal rods rather than down onto rods. Roller shades are available in various materials including linen, velvet, cotton, and polyester fabric. They can also incorporate pleated design or mesh material, which help improve air circulation inside the house and reduce solar heat gain during summer months. Some models offer blackout properties as well.
Another popular choice are Roman shades, which are similar to roller shades but with different construction. Instead of rolling tubes, Roman shades fold back to reveal their entire width when fully raised. Roman shades work particularly well for large openings in homes, since the shade folds in half without needing extra support.
Wooden window coverings also continue gaining popularity among buyers. While they have traditionally been considered less energy efficient, modern designs have improved upon this issue significantly. One example of this trend is casement styles, a style popular in Europe prior to World War II. A casement opens vertically like a door, providing unobstructed views of passersby, while remaining closed for protection in adverse conditions. Another contemporary innovation in wood covers is the accordion folding system, which enables owners to control shading via remote controls.

If your home was built after 2005, then chances are high that you will be able to install shutters.
But if the building was constructed prior to that date, you may have some difficulty finding a reputable installer who specializes in this type of project. So if that sounds like you and you would love to improve your curb appeal while saving money at the same time, the following information is going to help you figure out which shutters best fit your style and needs.
First things first though—the best place to find out all of your options is through professional shutter dealers. They should provide you with a wealth of knowledge regarding the different types of products available and they should be happy to answer all of your questions.

San Francisco Bay Area residents have long loved living in homes they love because of the unique charm, character & architecture associated with the region.
One thing many people overlook though is whether or not their windows will be functional once installed.
This is where home improvement companies come in, providing homeowners with products like shutters while the homeowner awaits a decision regarding their residence’s renovation needs.
However, this year, window coverings are becoming increasingly sophisticated and customizable, including options for solar control, thermal comfort, energy efficiency, privacy, security, and other benefits.
In addition to these exciting improvements, there are other factors to consider when choosing which type of shuttering is appropriate for your home. For example, certain styles of California shutters are better suited for colder climates than warmer ones. Likewise, some types are easier to install than others, meaning they’re often a preferred choice among DIY enthusiasts. And since every property is different, each style must be evaluated individually to see which would work best for your house.
Here is our ultimate guide to buying your next batch of beautiful curtains and louvers made from premium grade lumber to match your new decorating scheme today.
(We provide custom design support through our team of experienced professionals who take pleasure in matching your design preferences with the most suitable California Shutters style available. WHAT ARE California Shutters?
California shutters come in many different styles ranging from traditional plantation style shutters, through architectural-style shutter panels, modern blinds and sliding doors. These shutters provide privacy, protection against light streaming through windows, security from unwanted visitors, energy efficiency; they keep warm homes cool and cool them. They increase the value of property. If you’re considering installing shutters but aren’t certain which style suits your home’s décor better — traditional or contemporary — read this guide to learn everything you ever wanted to know about these beautiful window treatments. And remember: California shutters are available in sizes and shapes custom fitted specifically for each location. For example, some options include single panel shutters, bifold shutters and roller shutters. A good installer will be able to advise you on which type would work best for you.
What Is Included in My Box?
Typically, a California shutter package consists of several components. Some packages may contain materials and tools while other companies supply only instructions. However, most standard products consist of a box containing everything you’ll need to complete the project including: • Installation hardware like screws & anchors • Door seals • Sliding tracks • Locksets **(Optional extras** like additional weatherstripping kits & shims, etc…).
When Should I Install Shutters?
We recommend installing shutters during the fall months since temperatures begin cooling down early October. By then, it shouldn’t take long for shutters to become the focal point of attention on your front exterior walls. But if you’d rather install shutters in spring season, you should still consider them because window coverings installed in winter help insulate hot air trapped inside your house. Also keep in mind that the warmer seasons generally bring increased sunlight exposure which tends to fade wooden slats faster.
Who Do These Products Suit?
These shutters typically fit well sized bedrooms and offices — however, they’re suitable for larger spaces and multi family dwellings as well. Of course, shutters’ sizing largely depends upon the space being covered. Additionally, homeowners that prefer smaller installations may wish to use decorative curtains instead if space is tight or if the building was created prior to the 1960s.

Wood California Shutters vs. Vinyl California Shutters?
We get this question a lot, but there’s no right answer…it depends entirely on who the client is & which type of project they’re going for. So, I thought I’d put some facts together for those wondering which material would be better.
Here’s my breakdown:
• If you’re building a small house or remodel, vinyl shutters will probably work well for you. They come in many styles, colors, and price ranges. And they’re relatively quick and inexpensive to install—you’ll be able to see them installed almost immediately after purchase. Plus, most people find them easier than wood because they’re lighter weight.
In fact, if you’re just installing shutters for cosmetic purposes or for something like privacy, then a vinyl system makes sense. But if you’re trying to achieve maximum energy efficiency in your home, you should go with a wood system instead.
Wood shuttering is far superior in terms of energy savings, sound reduction, durability, maintenance costs, and aesthetics.
• On large homes or projects, however, wood systems are often necessary. The reason is that wood tends to hold heat longer than vinyl, meaning that if you live somewhere cold, you’ll want to consider wood for your California Shutters.
But if you live somewhere warm (like Southern CA), you won’t really benefit from wood. Instead, you’ll want to choose vinyl for your project.
So if you’re planning a massive renovation or adding a whole bunch of windows on top of your existing ones, you’ll probably want to opt for wood.
However, if you’re doing something smaller scale, it might be worth checking out both options.
If you decide to go with wood, there are lots of different types available. Here are the main ones:
Plywood: Plywood panels consist of layers of thin veneer sheets glued together. These are typically used for exterior applications. However, they can be found inside the walls of houses, too.
Hardboard: Hardboard is similar to plywood except that it consists of multiple layers of solid boards, rather than multiple sheets of veneer.
Whether it’s a condo building or a single family home, everyone wants beautiful windows in their living space. One thing people rarely get used to after moving is spending extra cash in order to have nice window treatments like shutters installed. Even though they’re expensive, homeowners often overlook them simply because they aren’t familiar with this type of blind/shade solution. We’ve compiled some insight below on why installing shutters should be included in every homeowner’s renovation checklist…
Incorporate color into you exterior design scheme.
If the majority of your neighbors don’t already have shutters installed, chances are good no one else does either. However, adding shutters to your house will drastically improve the curb appeal of your property. If you live somewhere close to other homes that have shutters, you’ll stand out among the crowd without having to spend many thousands of dollars. Additionally, you can personalize your home by choosing different colors that complement both the style of your home and the landscaping outside; the possibilities are limitless!
Improve energy efficiency.
When the sun shines through your bedroom windows, you lose energy. A well insulated home makes use of less electricity than a poorly insulating home — which could mean big savings on your bill each month. Adding shutters to your home, particularly those made from durable aluminum frames, increases insulation significantly due to the way light penetrates through them versus wooden slats. Because most modern homes have energy efficient air sealing systems built into the structure, shutting down these vents during warmer months won’t cause issues with cooling costs.
They’re versatile.
As the weather changes throughout the seasons, so will your mood. By utilizing multiple shades of material, a customized roller shade system allows you to alter the feel of your interior while ensuring privacy throughout the day. Whether you prefer something soft and romantic, vibrant and fun, or muted tones perfect for winter, shutters can accommodate whatever aesthetic you find appealing. As technology improves, you can even utilize wireless remote control devices to manage your shades remotely and keep track of usage patterns, allowing you to adjust automatically whenever necessary.
Increase security & safety.
Your home isn’t just valuable, but it represents peace of mind.
Motorized California Shutters San Carlos
In this post, I present some cool changes happening around motorization for California shutters in 2020. Some examples are presented below along with a brief explanation of why they are changing and what those changes mean for us as shutter owners and installers.
What Is Changing With Closed Loop Motors For CA Shutters
Some people call these “smart systems” because they enable the shutter operator to manually raise & lower the panels through the use of remote controls. In other words, no longer will you be stuck watching the whole operation via video feed while still having to keep track of which panel goes down first, which way closes, opening order, closing cycle length, timing intervals, and many other variables. Instead, simply control each individual channel individually by moving levers/knobs on the exterior or interior side of the frame.
Why We Need These Changes
We already see a trend towards closed loop solutions gaining traction among shutter system manufacturers and dealers alike. As closed-loop approaches gain more market acceptance, they are becoming increasingly easier to design into the structure of existing open loop units. This makes sense on multiple levels.
First and foremost, you cannot get high quality motorized solutions without them taking advantage of the modern advances in electronics like wireless communications protocols to transmit commands reliably across long distances (think WiFI). Not only does doing so prevent delays due to cable lengths or poor connectors but also ensures better integration between the external controller(s), the motors, and the internal mechanisms powering both.
Secondly, if you’re used to working inside the wall then being able to operate your shutters externally makes perfect sense. Once the exterior unit is installed, you could just walk away knowing everything was operating correctly. Of course, you would then miss out on the benefits derived from seeing the entire job unfold live during operation, but the bottom line is that you could spend less hours installing a project than ever before. And finally, if you own several different types of shutters it becomes convenient to be able remotely manage them all using a single mobile device instead of carrying a separate remote unit specifically designed for every type of blind.
In this post, I will be covering my personal Creed to help explain why I am doing what I am doing. My goal is always to provide quality products, customer service, and education. As a business owner myself, I understand the struggles of running a small company and having employees who care enough to work long hours to meet deadlines.
At Shutter Boys, everyone knows me on sight because they see me around everyday. We live and breathe shuttering here every single day.
I love being able to walk through doorways and instantly feel that feeling of home comfort knowing that I purchased and installed beautiful custom made furniture. And to top it all off, my clients come back again and again asking “why did I decide to go with Shutter boys instead of another provider?” They tell me stories of other providers coming in only to find themselves confused on which direction to install their windows/doors and then leaving without ever seeing them. At Shutter Boys, it really IS our passion; we truly enjoy helping people get more value for their investments.
When we say all of the above, we mean ALL OF IT. Our entire team lives and breathes shuttering every single week. From sales reps working in retail stores to engineers building out systems and manufacturing shutters in China; every member of the Shutter Boys family understands shuttering first hand. When someone calls us saying ‘I just bought some great California Shutters, but I’m unsure of how to put them down, could you please show me how?’ Well, guess what?! We already knew exactly how to do it. That’s our job. We love making customers happy and getting them excited about shuttering their doors.
And now for something completely different…. I know many of you reading this article aren’t interested in buying, installing, or selling anything like I am. If you do however, consider following along.
What is #MyCreed?
#mycreed is a hashtag used to promote unity among like minded individuals. For example, you could use #mycreed in a comment section, tweet it out, or even Instagram it.
Cost of California Shutters in San Carlos California
Cost of shutters can vary depending on many factors including type of window frame, size / shape of windows & doors, material used for construction, color options, design details and other decorative options available. For example, vinyl shutters cost less than fiberglass due to lower production costs. If using glass panels then metal frames will be required. Some types of aluminum shutters are cheaper than steel framed shutters but they lack thermal efficiency. Also some brands can offer better warranty protection against fading than others; however, most warranties cover only 10 years.
So let’s say the average price of California Shutters per square foot in 2020 ranges around $2-$300 dollars per sf depending on location. So the average total cost per home could range anywhere from $5K-$50k.
How to get started with your own project? Check this guide first.
1. Decide which style(s) work best for you and/or your client. We suggest looking through photos of shutters already installed at homes and condos. Do these fit your needs? Is it something you’d like to incorporate in your home/condo? What materials would work best (wood, iron, etc..)? Once you’ve settled on your favorite styles check out some different manufacturers’ sites. Read reviews and see which ones seem well established. Then call them and ask questions.

We advise you to be cautious during installation of new things especially after working hours due to many cases of people getting hurt from falling accidents caused by mishandled work. So follow this guide carefully and ensure safety firstly then go ahead with proper measurements to minimize risk involved during installation.
First things First, Measure Your Window’s Width And Height Of course, measuring your shutter size is essential in order to determine how accurate your chosen California Shutter model fits exactly onto your frame. You should always measure twice for each side of your window since they differ somewhat than standard measurements from one area to another. As per the recommendations, most of the California shutters range in width sizes between 20 to 30″ whereas height ranges vary considerably depending on design style. Please note that California Shutters are designed according to specific requirements to fit perfectly around doors and windows, therefore, all lengths must be measured after door openings.

Client Testimonials

“Hello Marco,

We are thrilled with the shutters! What a huge difference. The rooms feel bigger and brighter and now it feels like our place.
Your team of Tony and Keanu were fantastic. Thank you for such a short turn around time. I will be happy to leave reviews. I am having issues with my server but will remedy that in the morning. We are very happy. This has been a very positive experience for Steve, a pleasant distraction, and one that will continue to give him pleasure.
Thanks for being a part of our life changes.”

Toronto, ON

We met Marco just over 2 weeks ago. He was meticulous in measuring the windows and doors on our main floor. It was a very pleasant experience. We decided to go with the high end option of California shutters as they complemented the crown molding in our home. Marco’s crew, Tony and Keanu installed the shutters yesterday quickly and efficiently. They are great guys. We are absolutely delighted with how clean, bright and beautiful our home looks. The shutters make a huge difference. We have dealt with a lot of contractors in our various homes, and this was probably the best experience we have had. I highly recommend Marco and his team.

Toronto, ON

I recently had the wood shutters installed by Marco in my 2800 sq ft new built house. Its a corner lot, and there were 33 windows and a patio door to be dressed up by the wood shutters. The price was very competitive and the quality was superb. Marco and his team did a great job and the whole installation was completed in one afternoon. The wood shutters are of good quality, the finishes are smooth, adding great value to the already beautiful house. I am very happy with both the product and the services provided by Marco. Highly recommended.
