As far as measuring measurements go; all windows should fit inside a standard wall opening. Standard size windows are 32″ wide x 48″ tall. The width refers to the total length of both sides of the top and bottom frame pieces (32″). The height refers to the distance from the floor/ceiling line to the tip of the header trim piece (48″) plus the depth of the window sash track (the vertical space available within the jambs to slide the glass). A typical depth for double hung windows is 17″.
