California Shutters come in various styles ranging from traditional designs, modern designs, architectural patterns, rustic design, French inspired, Spanish designed, custom made, plantation blinds, vinyl shades/screens, and many other options. Depending on the size of your window, the materials used could either be metal, vinyl, fabric, composite board(for smaller windows), cedar wood, aluminum or fiberglass. Some homeowners choose different types of material due to cost or personal preference while others prefer them because they offer certain benefits depending on the climate where they live. For example, metal shutters are usually chosen over wooden panels since they tend to hold heat better than the latter. Vinyl screens and curtains can withstand higher temperature changes in climates whereas fabrics cannot. However, both materials have advantages and disadvantages to consider. Some people like the feel of wood against their skin while others feel uncomfortable around wood furniture. Wood shutters often get scratched during cleaning especially when left outside exposed to weather changes or moisture. On the flip side, vinyl shutters tend to wear faster and tear easier. Fiberglass screens are known for being stronger than most screen door frames and they rarely warp or bend under pressure. These shutters are typically heavy duty and durable. Most manufacturers of California shutters recommend installing them onto exterior walls rather than internal ones. They should be installed with screws, nails, staples, hinges, brackets, and rails instead of clips, magnets or adhesives. When possible, shutters should always extend past the sash line of the frame to cover the entire area. This makes them appear much larger and adds value to your property.
