California Shutters:
What are they? They’re an alternative way of shading windows without having blinds and curtains. Shutters offer many advantages including energy savings, maintenance cost reduction, privacy protection, sound control and improved air circulation. Shutters are manufactured in many different styles and colors and come in either solid timber or engineered veneer construction. Veneered shutters use real wood slats attached together with weatherproof adhesive making them very durable but heavy (as most timber is). Solid timbers are usually lighter and cheaper than engineered veneers but often lack longevity and durability and can be tricky and expensive to install. Most modern wooden shutters consist of at least 3 layers; outer plywood layer, spacer strips and then inner veneers. Spacers help to keep the window frame square while allowing the shutters to move freely along the tracks. We recommend installing shutters only after considering other options like roller shades, blinds and drapes. These should complement each other rather than compete against each other. When selecting a style, consider whether you would prefer to cover large expanses of glass or smaller areas such as around doors & sliding glass patio doors. If possible try visiting a nearby showroom to see which type best suits your needs. Some common questions include: Do I really need a full length shutter? Can I just cover half? Is this something my kids could handle? How do these work with screens for TVs/laptops? How high can the panels go and does the design allow me to put shelves underneath?
