WHAT ARE California Shutters?
California shutters come in many different styles, materials, colors, designs and shapes. They provide privacy, security, energy efficiency and beauty while protecting against wind, rain, sun damage, heat gain/loss and noise pollution. The most common types include Wood, Aluminum & Vinyl (or Composite).
Wood shutters usually consist of horizontal slats which are nailed together to form panels. These shutters offer great value for homes because they can be easily installed yourself, without requiring special tools or professional expertise. However, the downside to wooden shutters is they cannot be painted like vinyl shutters. Wooden shutters are typically available in 3/4″ thick boards, but some manufacturers will sell thicker or thinner versions of this size. Most commonly used woods are cedar, redwood and white oak.
Vinyl shutters can be made of either single-piece or multiple pieces. Single piece shutters are constructed entirely of plastic and vinyl and are designed to withstand high winds and heavy rains. Some of these shutters feature glass windows to allow light inside. Multiple panel shutters can have the same construction as single piece shutters, plus additional vinyl sheets which cover the edges. The advantage of multiple panel shutters is that they can be customized to suit any décor.
Aluminum shutters are another popular choice due to their durability and affordability. Aluminum is the strongest metal used in building construction. Aluminum has become increasingly affordable since the housing crash, making them an economical alternative to other shutter options. Aluminum shutters typically use either 1×6 or 2×8 lumber to construct them. Aluminum shutters are also often sold in kits that contain hardware, hinges and screws to install them.
Composite shutters are manufactured with fiberglass reinforced resin. Fiberglass is lighter than traditional aluminum and steel, yet stronger than wood, making composite shutter systems extremely sturdy. Composite shutters are also less expensive than aluminum or wood shutters, making them a good investment if you live in areas prone to severe weather conditions.
Our Promise: Quality California Shutters, Affordable Pricing
This will be the 20th edition of this guide; We keep adding products and updating prices but, the only thing changing is that our price promise remains unchanged. Shorter shutters are going away; they just aren’t economical anymore given everything else that goes into installing them. Most homes can still afford 30 inch panels, but there’s less demand for 40 inches, so manufacturers stopped making those. There’s no point paying $3k-$4k+ for 2x8s when 3/4ths are plenty enough. And many homeowners prefer having multiple windows rather than a single massive panel anyway. So Shorter shutters become more expensive because each component costs more, thus raising the price. But many people find longer shutters impractical, or worse, too heavy. So long shutters lose customers and manufacturers cut back their production lines accordingly. At some point, the market is big enough that companies start cutting corners to meet demand, which leads us to cheapie knockoffs like these. They’re mostly flimsy and ugly, and frankly I’m amazed anyone would buy them… yet some people did. But that gives us an idea of why some companies made shoddy quality shutters in the first place — they weren’t competing against other high quality brands, just trying to compete with Walmart and Target. If there was nothing left after everyone bought cheaper alternatives, then nobody could sell quality. And people buying lower end stuff won’t help premium brands either because they’ll go straight to Amazon instead of actually driving through neighborhood storefronts. No matter what happens, good things happen when people put effort into something. They see value in higher priced items, and they appreciate quality. And ultimately they wind up supporting companies that produce premium goods… and that keeps everybody happy. When you consider the fact that every window company sells a wide range of different sizes and styles, including custom options, you realize that there isn’t really any competition among brands to begin with, unlike some industries like cell phones. Everyone buys shutters from several different vendors because there’s simply nowhere for someone to “vote with their wallet” otherwise. All eyes are always upon Apple, Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, Sony, Huawei & Nokia. Each company competes solely via branding.
Cost of California Shutters in Pomona California
If you live anywhere else outside of Southern Califronia you will most definitely be familiar with these shutters because they are everywhere but I am going to point out some differences between them and California Shutters. First of all California Shutters are made completely different than other types of California Shuttering.
There are 4 main components to California Shuttering, which include Wood Framing, Glazing, Cladding(which usually goes around windows on top),and Exterior Finishes. For example some common finishes could be “Veneer Hardwood Finish” or “Flat Paint Finish”, while others like “Crown Moldings” would be used mostly in certain parts of Los Angeles county. Also another thing you should consider is that California has 2 seasons; Summer & Winter. So depending on where a home is located either side of the state could greatly effect which type of shuttering style that needs to be installed.
So why exactly is this post called “Pomona?” Because my company’s mission statement says that everything good happens or begins somewhere. And we believe the same holds true for our industry/business. We began selling custom wood window treatments in 2012 after years of living abroad and working in construction in both Europe and Asia. As many seasoned veterans often say, I was always drawn to something beautiful every day without knowing it…until then. But once I saw it…I knew immediately this was meant to be part of my life.
And in order to really understand California shuttering and see where it came from you must first understand how traditional wood framed shutters originated from Germany. When glass started becoming popular due to the invention of car headlights we learned that people wanted light blocking screens on their windows. These early versions looked almost identical to traditional wooden frame shutters only with added glazings and blinds. People loved the fact that they could easily control the amount of sun coming through during the summer months or just get better privacy inside since no one could spy on them unless they chose to…but that wasn’t enough. They wanted light blockage AND privacy. Enter modern double hung sash wood framed shutters.
I am committed to providing my customers with quality products, exceptional customer service, timely delivery & installations, excellent warranties and knowledgeable assistance in every step along the way!

After carefully considering these factors together, we develop our ideal solution for you which includes sample swatches for approval.
Each project requires multiple visits depending on scope and complexity during construction. Pomona’S #1 California Shutters MANUFACTURER
Pomona shutters are constructed out of premium grade wood including redwood, cedar, cypress, teak and mahogany, which are known around the world for being sturdy, durable building materials. These shutters are built tough for years of use while maintaining a high level of style. They provide maximum protection against heat gain during warm months but allow cool air circulation during cooler seasons. Because they are made to withstand harsh weather conditions like hurricanes and tornadoes, these shutters are able to save homeowners thousands of dollars annually through energy savings.
Homeowners who install them see immediate return on investment in terms of increased home value. For example, installing 3-inch thick privacy screens will protect outdoor rooms and windows from view without sacrificing light exposure and natural daylighting opportunities inside. When installed correctly, these types of shutters won’t leave unsightly gaps or rippling lines anywhere along frame edges.
They come ready to hang and are available in multiple styles and sizes to fit most door openings. Plus, because some models include hardware kits for convenient attachment, no tools are required for installation. Shutterboy offers custom colors and patterns for each model depending on customer preference. Their wide selection includes both single and double panel options, sliding panels, casement, tilt & slide, plantation and louvered designs—for nearly every window shape imaginable. And, unlike other companies that only offer standard measurements, these shutters are guaranteed true 2×4 inch dimensions, so customers get exactly what was promised.
For those interested in protecting their homes, it pays to seek out reputable manufacturers. At Shutterboys, quality products meet exact specs and guarantees. Customers rest assured knowing the products they purchase will perform well and be protected for many years to come. If a problem should arise down the road though, Shutterboy stands behind their products 100% and makes things right quickly. Additionally, they work extensively with national insurance carriers to ensure coverage issues are avoided and that insurance claims occur efficiently.

Here’s why shutters should be part of everyone’s home upgrade shopping experience and this is the latest trend for 2020 according to real estate professionals. For those people who aren’t familiar with them they are window treatments that completely cover the entire side of windows. They come from top manufacturers like Kawneer®, Stalwart®and Shutter Boys®. California Shutters are great because they save energy and provide privacy while letting natural light pass through. When considering different types of Shutters to install consider these factors first:
How big would my area be covered? Do I prefer single hung sash, double hung sash or fixed glazing? If you have the flexibility try installing 2×2 fixed panel systems. These panels allow you to maximize space so don’t rule out other options until you see how large your project will really become.
If I decide on the type of Shutter I want (Kawneer® Single Hung Sashes or Stalwarts™ Double Hung), which style fits better in every day life? Is it easier to clean? Does it match the style/colors of your house? Would you rather use screws instead of nails to put up shutters? The choice of hardware matters but it doesn’t matter enough to drive the purchase decision one way or another unless you already knew you wanted that specific design or material. Most people just go straight ahead with whatever suits their budget best. And there’s no reason to rush buying. Give us a call and we can help guide you to finding the perfect fit. A professional installation service should only take 1 hour per window, regardless of size, whether you need two windows or thousands. We always recommend calling a pro when putting up anything in the exterior walls due to the complexity involved in the job. Even though most jobs can be completed quickly and easily, a good professional team takes the extra time required to ensure everything goes well and looks beautiful once finished. Once installed properly, shuttering provides the added value to increase resale or rental demand without increasing maintenance costs.
LOOKING FOR California Shutters? WE CAN HELP!
In this article I will give you my opinion on which products to use for the upcoming season. We will cover the basics like color options, materials, styles, sizes and types.
We will talk about why each type of window treatment is used and some general rules of thumb to remember. The most common mistakes made in selecting shutters, blinds or shades for homes are choosing them without knowing what they should be doing, or buying something you just see because everyone else seems to love it. So lets get into it.
I am going to go through a few different examples of home windows to show you the differences between each style, material, size and price point. These pictures represent the style and quality we sell in our shop. If you would prefer to view these photos in high resolution click HERE.
1. Wood Shutts
Wood shutters come in many shapes, colors and designs but are still considered the cheapest option for most homes. They are typically painted with an exterior grade paint, or stained. Some people even stain the wood themselves.
They do however come in several different finishes and can be installed either horizontally or vertically. Horizontal installations give you the ability to close the entire opening in one step while vertical ones are great for large openings that need to be covered in multiple steps. Most horizontal shutters are available in 1/4″ increments to fit almost every door size opening. Vertical shutters usually only come in 3/16th inch increments.
2. Aluminum Shutts
These shutters are often found around pools and hot tub areas. Because of aluminum being lightweight, they are also perfect for covering larger openings than wood shutters. However, they can sometimes be tricky to install due to weight. Most manufacturers offer special brackets that attach to the frame of the house, making installation easier. They also come in both the same sizes as wood shutters and are available in many different colors and patterns.
3. Vinyl Shutts
Vinyl Shutts are a popular product for homeowners who live in cold climates. Their main benefit is that they keep heat inside during winter months without blocking sunlight. They work well on windows with glass panes that can withstand extreme temps.
Wood California Shutters vs. Vinyl California Shutters?
Wood shutters continue to be popular for both homeowners and commercial installations due to many advantages they offer including better energy efficiency, durability, ease of maintenance, high visual appeal, and protection against sun damage. They provide privacy, reduce heat gain during summer months and block noise pollution.
Vinyl shutters have become increasingly popular as well particularly among condo owners. Their popularity has increased because vinyl shutters offer similar benefits (privacy being chief amongst them), but come with multiple additional perks including minimal cost, faster installation, no assembly required, reduced cleaning frequency, and great appearance.
But which ones are actually worth installing? Here’s why DIY installers should consider wood versus vinyl shutters as part of this equation.
What makes Wooden Shutters Better than Vinyl? If you’re considering either type of exterior window shading, you’ll notice the main difference lies in materials used. Many people who like wooden shutters cite their beauty whereas those who prefer aluminum blinds point to longevity and strength. Vinyl window treatments fall somewhere in between these extremes. On the plus side, vinyl shutters are affordable and durable, while some manufacturers boast superior craftsmanship and unique designs. But unlike wooden shutters, vinyl options do tend to wear easier, crackle, fade, peel and splinter after years of exposure to sunlight and weather. For most homeowners — especially renters — wood will always beat vinyl every day of the week and twice on Sunday. While quality vinyl does exist today, you’d be foolish to ever buy “cheap” shingles unless price was absolutely critical to your decision making criteria. Some would say their cheap vinyl products still outperform cheap wooden solutions. So for anyone thinking of taking on a home improvement project this spring or early summer…it pays to shop around. Check prices, pick out styles, visit showrooms, talk to sales reps. Do whatever it takes to find something cheap that performs just as well as anything expensive. When I first moved back home, my girlfriend and friends had no idea that I made $60K+ working fulltime remotely for startups. At the same time, my mom thought I lived off her allowance when she visited me in SF. We’ve grown a lot since then.
Buy California Shutters Online
This post will be updated annually with tips & tricks for buying shuttering products and installing them. By far the most popular California Shuttering brands are made by Woodard, CielaPro, and Lifestyleshutters. These companies offer quality craftsmanship and superior materials like aluminum clad plywood, tongue and groove boards, MDF board options, and custom colors. They’re built to withstand nature’s harsh climate and provide beautiful aesthetics for years to come.
Professional California Shutters Installation In Pomona
With spring fast approaching, it’s only natural to be thinking about some things that will help keep your home warm during those chilly winter nights. One thing many people overlook — but shouldn’t — is installing quality shutters inside. After all, they block light, heat, and noise while keeping cold drafts away from windows. They also protect your property for years to come. If you’re interested in doing just that, read on. We’ve got everything else covered below, including tips on which types of shutters work well in different climates, styles, materials, price points, and more. Here’s what to consider when choosing the perfect shutters for your home and/or condo in the next few years. 1. Budget Your Future Investment A good rule of thumb would be to install shutters after every major renovation project you undertake. Not only does this ensure proper protection against weather conditions outside your window (and potentially other damage), it also gives you plenty of time to save up cash for said projects. 2. Research the Products & Types Available Once again, your house needs to be built to suit your style; otherwise, chances are high that you’ll end up disappointed. Luckily, there are lots of options available these days ranging from basic vinyl shades (that cost around $500-$1,000 per pair and cover your entire exterior door or bay window without obstructing the view) to custom wooden shutters made exclusively for your residence (which can run anywhere from hundreds of dollars for single blinds to thousands for full coverage). 3. Consider Color & Style While shutters generally function as functional barriers, they can certainly enhance aesthetics. And who knows, perhaps you’d like to go bold and paint them with bright colors? Or maybe something along the lines of neutral tones? 4. Pick Up Materials Once you’ve settled on shutters and determined color preferences, pick up your supplies and order online. There are a lot of great companies providing custom shutter products and installations and can offer excellent prices and service. 5. Install Them Locally Many reputable contractors and installers won’t charge upfront fees for their labor and material costs. Instead, they take care of both before the job begins.
Motorized California Shutters Pomona
For homeowners who love energy efficient products and modern designs but aren’t handy enough to install them yourself, motorized shutters provide a quick solution to changing seasons. But just because they’re automated does not mean they are less secure than manually operated ones. For instance, most models use deadbolt locks to hold down their panels which provide greater protection against intruders. Some include window lock mechanisms, while others offer both locking options. And some come equipped with security systems designed to keep unwanted visitors away. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in installing, follow along below for details on choosing the right model for your home or condo.
How Do Motorized Shutters Work?
Most motorized shades operate via a remote control device. Most manufacturers allow users to adjust the speed of rotation from 0% — 100%. Depending on the design of each unit’s motor mechanism, you’ll typically find either manual, automatic, or continuous mode selection buttons located somewhere on the top of the shade near the operating panel. While many motorized shades will automatically adjust speed settings according to ambient light levels, some units feature settings that remain fixed regardless of conditions. When selecting the appropriate setting, consider whether you’ll enjoy watching your curtains slowly wind themselves back after closing. Manual and auto modes tend to provide smoother operation, though some owners appreciate the challenge presented by continuously winding their shades during periods of extreme brightness. Regardless, if you prefer the convenience of remote controls, you should expect to pay extra for these models.
Where Can I Purchase My Own Motorized Shades Installation Service?
If you’d rather leave installation service to professionals, check with your preferred installer to see if he or she offers motorized blinds to his or her portfolio. Many contractors specialize in custom projects and can often handle installations without requiring additional fees. Others work primarily with traditional styles and only offer motorization on select types. Still other companies operate nationwide franchises and charge per job instead of per hour. Ask around and take note of those who seem reputable and knowledgeable. Once you narrow down your choices, contact each company to determine their policies regarding warranty coverage and financing.
Best California Shutters Pomona
We live in Los Angeles County during some of the hottest months of the year. Even though I am a huge fan of sunshine in my life, being without natural lighting indoors can be very uncomfortable especially during these hotter months. My wife came home recently asking me why she didn’t see sunlight after coming inside from outside. Of course, I was confused but then I thought about all the things going on around us like construction projects, remodeling jobs or just maintenance work taking place in homes that could block her view. So she told me to help her buy shutters because they would make her feel better. We talked it through and agreed to get some custom made shutters for windows, sliding doors and patio/deck openings installed soon in our house.
Pomona residents and homeowners should take note of this article which details the best designs for outdoor living spaces, including shuttered sliding glass door installations. Our own experience installing and buying new shutters gave us insight into the benefits of getting proper window coverings for those who wish to improve indoor comfort and privacy with quality solutions.
Shutters provide a way for people to enjoy summer outdoors while providing protection from strong winds and sun exposure. For example, many families love spending their days watching movies outside in their backyards or swimming pools. However, keeping them closed will keep insects away and prevent unwanted guests from seeing into your backyard, yet shutting them down during extreme heat can result to fading fabrics and mildew growth among other problems. And, shuttering only helps reduce glare – not eliminate it entirely. On top of this, if you decide to install vinyl shutters, remember that they won’t block UV rays completely. They’re still porous enough to allow light through making them good choices for homeowners trying to avoid harmful UVA and UVB radiation. If you’d prefer nonporous materials, we suggest the following types: Wood Clad Vinyl Privacy Shutters. These shutters offer great design options and come with a lifetime warranty against warping. Another benefit of having wooden shades covering your patio is that they’ll protect furniture in case someone falls off the deck and lands onto it. Plus, they’ll easily conceal items inside a shed, garage or storage building behind them.

Client Testimonials

“Hello Marco,

We are thrilled with the shutters! What a huge difference. The rooms feel bigger and brighter and now it feels like our place.
Your team of Tony and Keanu were fantastic. Thank you for such a short turn around time. I will be happy to leave reviews. I am having issues with my server but will remedy that in the morning. We are very happy. This has been a very positive experience for Steve, a pleasant distraction, and one that will continue to give him pleasure.
Thanks for being a part of our life changes.”

Toronto, ON

We met Marco just over 2 weeks ago. He was meticulous in measuring the windows and doors on our main floor. It was a very pleasant experience. We decided to go with the high end option of California shutters as they complemented the crown molding in our home. Marco’s crew, Tony and Keanu installed the shutters yesterday quickly and efficiently. They are great guys. We are absolutely delighted with how clean, bright and beautiful our home looks. The shutters make a huge difference. We have dealt with a lot of contractors in our various homes, and this was probably the best experience we have had. I highly recommend Marco and his team.

Toronto, ON

I recently had the wood shutters installed by Marco in my 2800 sq ft new built house. Its a corner lot, and there were 33 windows and a patio door to be dressed up by the wood shutters. The price was very competitive and the quality was superb. Marco and his team did a great job and the whole installation was completed in one afternoon. The wood shutters are of good quality, the finishes are smooth, adding great value to the already beautiful house. I am very happy with both the product and the services provided by Marco. Highly recommended.
